Stacks and hidden catches, one insight that helps.
Stacks are an excellent way for the courier to move ahead in a rush. A stack is two or more deliveries in one trip. Sometimes the stack disperses to different locations. Other times the entire stack goes to the same drop-off location.
Furthermore, stacks are a way for the courier to make additional income. And for doing almost the same work. Indeed, it is possible to complete more deliveries when stacks are factored in. Double stacks. However, this doesn’t mean all stacks are profitable. In fact, some are just not.
Stacks and hidden catches, one insight that helps.
With this in mind, the idea is for the courier to make money from investing resources. Taking more deliveries in one trip, adds to the overall mileage of the delivery. Crew couriers taking multiple deliveries in one trip, do so because it is a benefit. Not only to the courier, but also the merchant.
However, the delivery must make sense. For example, the crew courier has drawn a delivery from the queue. It is a far away delivery. And it will pay an average amount. Within minutes another delivery drops. The new delivery, is on the way to the previously assigned delivery. It makes sense to send one courier, for both deliveries.
Furthermore, the crew courier will benefit from the proceeds of each delivery. Particularly the far away delivery. It is the one accepted first, and will continue to be worth the value it had as an individual delivery. Indeed, this is where the stack is an advantage for the crew courier. Respectively.
This crew scenario differs with a delivery app. The stack offer can come to the queue as a double offer from the start. Or a second delivery offer happens along the way, to the first offer’s pick-up. One hidden catch is the double stack offer. This applies to the offer of the double stack from the queue.
Basic Insight
At a glance the offer looks close to an acceptable arrangement. This is a good time to halve the offer, and compare that to the sum of the miles traveled. This will help shed light on the value of the farthest away delivery. Respectively.
With this in mind if the offer seems too low after looking at it from this perspective, a pass might be in order. This topic will be revisited in depth as a subscriber article. There is much the courier should be aware of with this type of delivery. Until then, stay safe out there.
