Shop and deliver – How to get through a substitution
Shop and deliver, is a popular delivery service. Most delivery apps offer a version of this delivery type. Couriers accepting this type of delivery understand its appeal. The delivery customer selects items from a retail store. And often it is a retail grocery store. Similarly, the courier accepts the delivery offer, from a delivery app.
With this in mind, a shop and deliver order, takes longer to complete than a regular delivery. There are several items the courier must locate. Furthermore, some of the items are very specific. The courier needs focus and concentration. All the items, and the details, are in the app.
When the courier finds a particular item, the app scans the barcode. With the result being the approved item. With this strategy, mistakes are minimal. Sometimes, an item is hard to find. Especially if the courier is unfamiliar with the retail merchant. Then there are the sold out items. This means the courier will have to do a substitution. Although it sounds like a breeze, it’s not always smooth sailing.
Shop and Deliver
When the courier tries to find an item, and can’t, it is common to look for a substitute. The substitute is customer approved. Furthermore, this isn’t the first choice of the delivery customer. However, it is the backup. Just in case the first choice is out of stock.
It’s in close proximity to the original item in the app. For example, a toggle option. Usually somewhere around the item details. In some apps, the courier has to initiate it. And this happens by marking the original item as unavailable. Then the courier is given a pre-approved substitution.
Once the courier locates the substitute, the app does the scan. Now it is a waiting game. The courier waits for the delivery customer to approve the substitute. Once approved it goes to the cart. Respectively.
How to get through a substitution
The process is easy. Furthermore, it is reliable. Especially in cases where there is a need for more than one substitute. In that case, there will be more interaction with the delivery customer. However that will be the topic of the next article. Stay safe out there.
