Selecting the best delivery zone
The delivery zone is one of the most useful tools a courier can have. However, each one is different, and if you’re a solo driver each one is imaginary until it is created. Unless the courier is using an app that has clearly marked zones.
Delivery apps have different ways of covering an area for deliveries. For example, the doordash app divides an area into smaller areas. Furthermore, these smaller areas are called zones.
Similarly, within these zones are hotspots of activity. Hotspots are merchants that are experiencing a rush, or surge, in business. Indeed, it would be ideal if all deliveries remained in the same zone. But they don’t.
Selecting
Other apps cover an area without marking zones. Therefore, the entire area is fair game and this is helpful. For example, a faraway run. This could mean the return trip will likely see an offer based on the current location.
Once upon a time the courier had to return to the starting zone to receive more offers. It’s up to the courier which app suits their setup the best. Zone selection strategy, is about trying to fish better offers from the queue.
Hovering is a technique that yields results. Using it in densely populated, shopping and restaurant areas has a positive effect. Additionally, it allows the app to compare the couriers location to the closest and most opportune delivery offer. The best one.
Delivery zone
Some couriers have a setup for greater distance traveling and far away run strategies. While other couriers have a setup that requires many short distance runs. Different zones create different run patterns, and setups. Respectively.
Experimenting with a zone is a good idea, to get an idea, of its potential. Also the different patterns are reliable from zone to zone. The patterns will vary based on the zone, but they do exist, and are influenced by things like time of day, day of week, and more.
Select that zone, work it, and compare. Stay safe out there.
