Screen saver snafus and new shoes
When a delivery goes well everyone knows it went well. The at home delivery customer had a friendly disposition. The exchange of the delivery items was smooth. Likewise the courier did well. From the professional appearance, to the heat bag, the delivery was near flawless. Driving away from that scene is a win win. If only every delivery were like that. Many of them are, however there are the occasional snafus.
The occasional snafu has a way of flipping the switch on a delivery. Sometimes it’s a merchant mistake, or a delay. Similarly, it can come from a traffic situation or a not so great route selection. There are even times when a screen saver, can create a real banger of a snafu. It wouldn’t be the first time a phone setting interfered with a drop-off. However, a screen saver is not the usual suspect. Although many couriers use one to conserve battery power, they don’t usually create snafus.
With this in mind, missing a delivery note can cause a snafu. Furthermore, not all delivery notes appear at the beginning of the delivery. Sometimes a delivery note comes in after the pickup. For example, a missing gate code, or the at home customer doesn’t want the courier to ring the door bell. Not ringing the doorbell is a common delivery request. However, as mentioned earlier, it isn’t always there in the beginning.
Screen Saver Snafus
It’s a late night delivery. In fact, it’s a late night alcohol delivery. Or, perhaps it’s a late night hot fresh food special. Something for the grownups after the kids are in bed for the evening. Furthermore, the at home customer uses the delivery app for deliveries all the time. Therefore, there might not be a need to have the courier work in stealth mode on every delivery request.

The courier operates the pickup. Experienced couriers will have already scanned the details of the pickup. For example, the items in the pickup, and any delivery notes or messages. This is the best time to ensure that every item in the delivery order is accounted for. Especially the extras, like sauces and cutlery, or napkins. Additionally, any deserts and drinks there may be.
From there the pickup goes to the heat bag. Then it’s time to locate and navigate. Most experienced couriers take the time to quickly look over the suggested route before leaving the pickup location. And they take a quick second look for delivery notes. Once everything checks out, it’s all about the drop-off. Right about now is when the screen saver on the phone kicks in. Then it’s the screen lock. Everything is accounted for, so there’s no need for the app, until arrival at the drop-off.
The New Shoes
And that’s when an urgent message appeared in the app. Just after the screen saver, and right before the snafu.
Don’t ring the doorbell, knock lightly. Children sleeping.
The message is common. If the phone’s screen saver is on, or the lock screen is active, it’s easy to miss. Whereas, if the app is open, the notification is noticeable. When the courier doesn’t see the message, ringing that doorbell can make for a frosty reception. Particularly if it’s an alcohol delivery. Indeed, the parent whose child just woke up isn’t likely to be a happy tipper. Don’t be the courier who misses the urgent update. Watch the dispatch screen all through the delivery. With a last check upon arrival at the drop-off.
Speaking of checking things out. The season is changing and that means road conditions are too. Time to check those treads on the ride. Likewise, it might be time for some new shoes on that vehicle. As the season changes weather conditions can change as well. Furthermore, the road affects tire wear differently in the winter months. A round of maintenance will help determine tire condition. From tire pressure, to tire wear, tis the season to check those treads. Stay safe out there.
