Same day delivery – Is the hustle really worth it?
In every delivery there is some risk. Fortunately, it isn’t quite as challenging as it used to be. When at home delivery started, there was no smart phone. Phones just hung around on the wall. Furthermore, GPS maps were also hanging on the wall. Or folded up in the glove compartment of the ride. Additionally trolls lived under bridges and the occasional dinosaur still roamed the land.
That last part has some exaggeration. No folded map ever returned to the glove box the same way. Especially after unfolding it. They just weren’t made to do that. The good news is those are all things of the past. In this day and age, same day delivery is the norm, not the exception. Furthermore, courier hustle is par for the course. The at home delivery market is busier than it’s ever been. In fact, couriers run delivery morning, noon and night.
With this in mind, there is a timer on every delivery. The clock is ticking. From the moment the courier accepts the delivery until the drop-off, everything is on a timer. Furthermore, the timer is eerily accurate. And relentless. Every step of the delivery process is on a timer. It may sound stressful. And in some ways it is. However, it is more of a learning curve, than unlimited stress exposure.
Same Day Delivery
That is the goal of the at home delivery. It’s about convenience and ease of use. For the courier’s part, a race against the clock is the job. The at home customer is looking for convenience. Not only is it about the same day delivery, but also the same hour delivery. Furthermore, the demand for speedy delivery is one of the reasons the gig-work courier stays so busy. In fact, this can be said for most delivery drivers. On demand delivery is still a growing industry.
A growing industry that requires diligence and hustle. Although the smart phone is useful, and it simplifies at home delivery, it isn’t the only tool the courier uses. Especially crew couriers and gig-work couriers. The courier’s vehicle is another part of the process. Even bike couriers have this vehicle responsibility. It’s how they stay on top of the hustle.
Furthermore, it’s the hustle that makes the work sustainable. In other words, one delivery isn’t enough to create a paycheck. If that were true, there would be a lot of retired couriers living the good life on the beach. Therefore, the hustle is part of the job. It’s also what made same day delivery famous. Rather than an impossible dream. In fact, it’s not just Santa that can make outstanding delivery times now.
Is the Hustle Worth It?
Is the hustle worth it? That is a matter of opinion. Some say yes. Some say no. However, it’s an individual quest. Employed couriers have advantages that self-employed couriers don’t. And the same is true for the solo courier. It boils down to experience. Once a courier has time on the job, delivery completions improve. Moreover, the learning curve is a part of it. And it only slows the process for a short time.
Before long the courier is blazing down the road to a snappy rock and roll tune. Stress free and timely. Furthermore, if not for the same day delivery concept, the on-demand at home delivery, might not exist. So, in that sense, the hustle is worth it. Stay safe out there.
