Safer deliveries in the dark, how to maximize courier safety
A new season is approaching fast. The summer season is winding down. Soon merchants will have expanded hours to keep up with the demand of the holiday season. Speaking of seasons winding down, there are other things that are also winding down. Like the sunset.
With this in mind, soon, evening deliveries will genuinely be in the dark. There is a lot of difference between a day delivery and a night delivery. It’s like night and day. One of the first things the courier has to remember is to allow extra time for night deliveries.
Safer Deliveries
The good news is it happens gradually. Therefore, the courier does have time to adapt. Furthermore, this is helpful in promoting courier safety. However, the courier will also need a little help from some friends.
The friends are available in most hardware stores and shopping centers. The first one that comes to mind is the flashlight. Simple and basic but a real heavy weight when it comes to those dark concrete steps at the drop-off. Additionally, the flashlight is an excellent tool for spotting faraway building numbers in apartment complexes.
Some couriers prefer a headband light. Others are able to use their phones and get by. There are many different types of personal flashlights. However, anything that can shed light on things will do. Another technique the courier can use, to maximize safety, is aiming the lights of the ride whenever possible.
Aiming the lights of the vehicle can help the courier pick out a dark path at night. Additionally, it allows the courier to see hidden obstacles leading up to a darkened porch. This is where it gets interesting. The darkened porch. The apps have a reminder system to ask the customer to turn on porch lights.
Not only does this help the courier see better upon arrival, but also helps keep the courier a little safer. The apps send a reminder with a delivery order, to turn on the porch lights. And most drop-off locations do. However, not every light is a regular light.

Motion activated porch lights, make it seem like the porch light is off. Because it is. Once the courier reaches a certain point, the lights come on, and all the dangerous darkness abates. This occurs at just the right time, allowing the courier to see in real time, all the things being tripped over.
Having the ride shining a little extra light on things, is helpful indeed. These are just a few of the more basic ways a courier can maximize safety. Additionally, this topic will get additional attention in future posts. Stay safe out there.
