Running on time delivery or a better variety delivery
On time delivery is the goal of most couriers. It’s an overall mission. One of the first ways a courier learns to do this, is by finding the shortest route. The rule states that the shortest distance between two points, is a straight line. New couriers find this to be true from the start. When trying to beat a deadline unnecessary detours cost time. Therefore the quickest path is as straight as possible.
With this in mind, there is a difference between on time delivery and a wider variety of delivery. Likewise, there is a difference between a dedicated delivery merchant, and a delivery app. It’s a subtle difference. However, the at home delivery experience can change, depending on the choice. That isn’t to say it’s a dramatic change. In fact, delivery apps are more competitive than when they were first introduced. Therefore, quality delivery is more common than ever.

As mentioned above the difference is subtle. For the most part. A dedicated delivery merchant has an advantage over a delivery app. There are less spread out moving parts. A merchant with an in-house delivery crew has the inside scoop on every facet of the delivery request. From the moment the order is placed, to the moment it goes out the door. Every part of the process is managed by the merchant. Including supplying the driver and a dispatch queue.
Running On Time Delivery
Every part of the at home delivery process has the oversight of the merchant. Including the delivery crew. Additionally, a majority of delivery merchants still running a delivery crew, are pizza brands. However, that is beginning to shift as more merchants are integrating with the delivery apps. This trend is about cost cutting. Maintaining a delivery crew is a major expense for a restaurant.
Many merchants end up weighing the cost of maintaining a delivery crew against integrating with a delivery app, and paying a fee. In some cases the savings are considerable. However, there is definitely a compromise or two. For example, timely delivery. Or, on time delivery. The merchant with a delivery crew has a system for timely delivery. In fact, some delivery merchants are rocket fast.
This is because they are taking the order directly from the customer. Then preparing the order. And then packaging the order. Furthermore, the courier knows about the order the moment it shows on the dispatch board. All the while every player is right there. On location. With the order. With that kind of follow through, it’s hard to be late.
Variety, the Spice of the Delivery App
A dedicated delivery system delivers an on time delivery, almost every time. Compared to the delivery app, speed can easily be a top priority. Indeed, this is especially useful in a delivery rush. However, not every delivery customer is seeking the speed of teleportation. In some cases the timely delivery is not as important as the variety. For example, why have pizza when you can have sushi?

The delay is worth the satisfaction of that craving. Yet the sushi might take longer to retrieve. Especially if the sushi restaurant is across town. A delivery merchant has a fixed zone. A delivery app is able to fulfill a delivery request in any zone. Especially the one across town. Even if it takes a bit longer. Furthermore, this is also an ideal setup. A setup for the faraway delivery.
The ideal at home delivery is usually about convenience. Whether it be the convenience of time saved. Or when dealing with a specific craving. Variety of choice is best when it’s about a particular food, served by a particular restaurant. Therefore, a courier running for a delivery app will see unique delivery requests. Something to keep in mind, when making an on time delivery. Stay safe out there.
