Roadside Repair – When It’s a good Idea and When It’s Not
Roadside repair. Two words that have, uh oh, written all over them when put together. While it is true that some roadside issues can be planned for, and remedied on the spot, roadside is not always the best place to make repairs.
From a safety standpoint, the only thing a driver should be doing on the roadside, is leaving the roadside. Sitting at the side of the road is one of the most dangerous places a vehicle can be.
Exiting the vehicle, when it is roadside, is also dangerous and should be done with caution. And only if necessary. Whenever possible make the call, and get the roadside assistance.
When it’s a good idea
It’s really not a good idea. However, it may become necessary at some point, for some couriers. Preparing for road issues such as repairs or the unexpected is part of staying safe on the road.
One of the more common things that can put a courier roadside is tire trouble. Making sure the ride has a spare tire and that it is in proper running condition is important. For the courier that is handy with tools, a tire plug kit, is also good to have on hand.
Moving the vehicle into a parking lot, or anywhere off the roadway, is ideal.
When It’s Not
It’s not a good idea to do work on a vehicle on the side of the road. There are numerous reasons why it’s unsafe. Making every effort to get the vehicle off the road is a safety conscious approach.
Nevertheless, roadside emergencies do happen and keeping the vehicle as far from the active lanes of traffic, as is possible, is important. Having the number of a tow truck company is also a good strategy.
Most insurance apps have roadside remedies as well. It is always important, to make every effort possible, to stay safe out there.
