Road construction is an excellent thing. There are delays, unexpected lane closures, and detours aplenty. There are so many things to watch for in road construction zones, it’s a good thing speed is restricted. Especially these days with the advanced pace of new projects.
With this in mind, road construction is a part of the job. Improved roadways are a benefit to more than just the courier. Everyone that uses the road benefits from improved roads. Additionally it is a given that road construction causes delays. Big delays.
However, with forethought and strategy, the courier can minimize the effects of road construction. This can be done by avoiding it when possible. While this may sound easy it’s not always the case. For example, a construction zone is less likely to be as busy after rush hour. Therefore deliveries in that area may not be delayed.

In a case like that the courier would have to make a judgement call. Knowing about it beforehand is the strategy part. Furthermore, there are many strategies the courier can use on the road, to use the road, to benefit from the road.
There is one, often overlooked strategy, which is an easy one. The weather. Having an idea of the road conditions, due to weather, is a benefit to the courier. Not only can the weather influence the volume of deliveries possible, but also the courier’s ability to make timely completions.
Weather forecasts are helpful. They can help with a general idea of what to look for over the course of a few days. Furthermore, weather forecasts are important in cases of severe weather. Especially weather related alerts. The courier will benefit from these.
Many of these things are a matter of patience and timing. For example, using traffic lights to secure a safe path. The strategy of being at the correct traffic light to save a journey through three additional lights, can save time. Time is equal to money in a delivery rush.
Safer Courier
Traffic strategies like this are useful when the courier is familiar with the delivery area. Which is another area the courier can be strategic with. Route selection. For every destination there are probably several routes that might work. Out of those, perhaps three, are worth considering for saving time. And one of those will be the one that works best, for the current circumstances.
