Road conditions and their impact on timely delivery

Road conditions and their impact on timely delivery

Every delivery is different. Even when they are the same, they are different. With each new drop-off location comes a new set of challenges. From drinks to detours, there is always something to keep track of, for the courier. Delivery details, and directions, are just the start.

With this in mind, there are many reasons for delivery delays. From a mix-up in the order, to a glitch at the pickup merchant, almost anything can delay a delivery. Once a delivery is delayed, a ticking clock begins. The ticking clock is imaginary. However it is counting down the minutes of the delay.

The minutes of the delayed delivery move by at an alarmingly fast rate. Before you know it the five minute delay has turned into an eleven minute delay. Furthermore, it is unlikely the courier will regain any of the lost time. Unless a teleporter is used, road conditions and traffic delays, will still be a factor.

Road Conditions and How They Impact Timely Delivery

The road conditions and traffic delays will be a part of the delivery anyway. However, it is an accepted part of the delivery. When there has been a delivery delay, the road conditions become an additional worry. For example, rainy weather. This is one of the most challenging driving conditions for the courier.

    Road conditions

When the weather is predictable, the road conditions can be taken as a matter of course. In other words, if it is rainy, the roads will probably be slick in places. Therefore, it is possible the delivery may be slow, due to the weather. Or, more accurately, the weather’s impact on the road conditions.

The experienced courier keeps one eye on the daily weather forecast. This work habit, acts like an early warning system. The daily forecast, and accuracy, do not always walk hand in hand. Therefore a forecast can act as an indicator. Or an early warning system. A system that allows the courier to anticipate the road conditions.

    The Discussion

The timely delivery is an anticipated event. Even the leave at the door customer appreciates an on time delivery. Especially if the road conditions are less than stellar. Contacting the drop-off location is a bonus. It means the courier will have one less thing to stress about.

Recognizing the impact of weather on the road conditions, is a benefit for the courier. Furthermore, it is important to consider the weather over there. (The other side of town) As well as the weather over here. (This side of town) One size does not always fit all, when it comes to weather. This topic will continue in upcoming articles. Until then, stay safe out there.
