Refresh on the pin number and arrival time relief
Some of the best deliveries don’t go as planned. Although the courier does almost everything right, things just don’t go as planned. It might be a traffic situation that delays the pick up. Or a merchant issue that creates a lengthy delay. There could be any number of things that cause a delivery to be late. And the courier is along for the ride on each of them. However, a late delivery is not necessarily a bad delivery.
With this in mind, sometimes the courier does everything right. From accepting the offer from the queue, all the way to the delivery completion. Those are the routine deliveries. They are bread and butter for the courier. Furthermore, the system used in delivery apps is based on predicted times. Between the merchant and the delivery app, the timing of each step is carefully calculated. For example, the estimated time of arrival for the courier.
These estimated times are for the benefit of the delivery customer. Having a general idea of when to expect a delivery, is one of the perks of a delivery app. Particularly if that delivery involves hot fresh food. The merchant estimates a time that the delivery order will be ready for pickup. From there, the app estimates the time the courier will arrive at the drop-off location, with the delivery.
Refresh on the Pin Number
The system is effective at keeping deliveries accurate and timely. However, there are times when the system snags. For example, the courier arrives on time at the pickup location, but the order isn’t ready. This is a common occurrence. Sometimes it’s only a delay of a few minutes. Other times it can become a shift altering wait. Any lengthy wait at the pickup merchant is going to skewer the estimated times of the delivery.

It is important to keep an eye on the clock. Experienced couriers will notice that the estimated arrival time in the app is fairly close to the mark. Once upon a time there was a wider margin. In other words, the courier would arrive long before the order was ready. This meant the courier was not late for the pickup. It also meant more delays for waiting couriers. However, the timing of the apps, is much closer to the mark these days.
The dilemma comes from the initial delay. If a courier is waiting long beyond the estimated pickup time, then the estimated times for the rest of the delivery, will also be off. Furthermore, it is not the courier’s fault that the pickup merchant is behind. Fortunately, the Doordash app has a feature that works to adjust this for the courier. Once the app detects a delay the rest of the estimated times are updated to reflect the delay. This update is also sent to the delivery customer.
Arrival Time Relief
This is a welcome relief for the courier. It also adapts the ratings in real time. Couriers that are ratings focused will appreciate this feature. It is also a bonus for the delivery customer. Real time updates on hot fresh food deliveries are top tier information. Another real time update is the return of the PIN delivery. That’s right the pin number is back. If it isn’t already popping up more often in your delivery lineup, it will be soon.
It might be through promotion or a new system being tested but the PIN delivery is making a comeback. Therefore, it is important to remember to get the pin number before the customer closes the door. Or the customer walks away, or hangs up the phone. The PIN is the four digit code the app needs in order to complete the delivery. It is possible to complete the delivery without it but it is time consuming. Additionally it might involve customer support. Best to remember to get that PIN while at the door. More on this in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
