Quick Delivery Tips for Zone Jumping and Mini Zones
Deliveries ebb and flow, depending on the time of day. And the day. Some days are busier than others and certain times of the day are the busiest. So a courier running at these times is likely to see an increase in deliveries.
Solo delivery drivers and couriers benefit from targeting the busiest times of the day, for deliveries. However, deliveries still happen, outside of rush times. Furthermore, if a courier is working a long day, it often becomes a good strategy to change zones.
Delivery apps like Doordash divide a delivery area into smaller zones. Likewise those zones can have mini zones. For example, one of my preferred zones, has 5 mini zones.
Mini Zones
For the intent of this article, I’m counting dense shopping districts, as mini zones. It’s possible to hover a mini zone and cultivate a series of deliveries from the merchants in that mini zone. All while maintaining the larger zone.
A benefit to hovering particular mini zones, is consistent delivery opportunities with particular merchants. Patience and timing are key factors. And equally important, a courier must develop the area.
Mini zones are courier’s choice. When they are combined with circuit driving, deliveries pop from the merchants in the mini zone. Proximity still matters when offers are being dealt.
Moving to a new zone is another way for the courier to maximize opportunities. However, the timing and manner of changing zones, is important. It’s very important, when using an app like the Doordash app.
Zone Jumping
The app will offer deliveries into other zones. This is one way the courier can easily switch zones and not miss a beat. As the courier enters the new zone, the app will search for deliveries in that zone.
The courier can also end the shift in the current zone, and move to another zone for deliveries. This strategy also works in other apps. For example, Ubereats. While it’s true, the Ubereats app doesn’t divide an area into zones, it’s possible for the courier to develop them. Same as a mini zone. Stay safe out there!
