Putting together a full tank of gas on the fly
Is the wallet feeling a little slim? Did the day start with a partially full tank of gas, maybe, below half?
It happens, often, to many couriers. In fact, that was my start yesterday. It was better than the tank on E start. Those are tough. But doable, in a close call, kind of way.
Additionally there are two versions of running for replenishment. One is the crew driver version. The other is the solo driver using an app.
For the purposes of this article, it is presumed the courier has at least two active delivery apps with instant payout features.
Full tank
With this in mind the crew driver has the home base. And a bank. To be clear, the bank is cash. It is provided to the courier, by the merchant. Similarly this allows the courier to make change for cash customers.
Moreover, experienced crew drivers measure a good shift, by how quickly the bank is made. Once the courier has enough earnings to equal the bank, it is considered made.
Obviously, the fewer runs to make the bank the better. Additionally earnings above the bank are bread and butter for the courier. This is a sign of possible, added prosperity, for the courier. As well as a lifeline on those dead E starts.
Furthermore the solo driver doesn’t have the home base. And the bank is the courier’s bank. However, the solo act has the advantage of being selective about deliveries and zones.
On the fly
Furthermore, with instant payout of earnings, the solo courier will have a tank bank, when needed. However, there are some caveats to be aware of, when pulling the bank.
Fees and limits. They vary from app to app and are a part of doing gig-work. Limits are how many times in one day, the courier can collect a bank. Fees are a part of doing instant business.
The goal is making the bank, and using the bank to replenish the tank, along the way. Or, putting together a full tank of gas on the fly. Stay safe out there.
