Proof of delivery, the first rule of the drop-off
Completing a delivery is the natural conclusion of the at home delivery process. Once the delivery is complete, the courier accepts another delivery offer. If it is a busy night, or day, this process will happen almost nonstop. The offers keep coming as the courier works through a delivery rush.
With this in mind, the night rush carries on, and somewhere in the wee hours of the morning the dust settles. Now the courier is limping home. Furthermore, the day is resoundingly normal. 13 runs accepted, 13 runs completed. Likewise, that’s a good boost to the ratings.
After an evening’s rest, the new day brings new challenges. As the courier begins the day with the delivery app, the sweet 13 from the previous evening, is now an even dozen. One less run than before. What gives? Additionally, the completion rating has now taken a hit.
Proof of delivery, the first rule of the drop-off
After some investigation it turns out the courier was denied a completion. Through the murky details of the app, it is possible to discern it was about a delivery that didn’t make it to the drop-off location. This is a conundrum because the courier can remember every drop-off location from the day before.
Finally, it is narrowed down to the one delivery that was, leave at the door, but was handed off instead. Somehow it was reverted back to an incomplete delivery. There is no proof otherwise. Hand it to me drop-offs, don’t get photo ops. It’s enough that there is a live human to accept the cargo. Or it should be.
However, it isn’t always enough to rely solely on the honor system. Although it is possible for the app to confirm the courier is in the right place, (The drop-off can’t be completed unless the courier is close to the pin) it is still possible to lose the delivery. Without proof of delivery it is more difficult to confirm the delivery, later on.
This isn’t to say that every drop-off has to have proof. In fact, a delivery marked hand it to me is done, once the directive is met. Therefore, it is more about the type of delivery. Leave at the door drop-offs are set-up so the courier can leave it at the door, with proof that it’s actually at the door.
New ratings
This is a big topic and is becoming more relevant as apps change things. Some apps may change the criteria by which a metric is gauged while other apps may tighten up on the minimum acceptable ratings allowed for various metrics. No matter the song, the dance is still the same. Proof of delivery, the first rule of the drop-off. Stay safe out there.
