Perks and queues a comparison for the new courier
Solo driving versus crew driving, has been a topic of interest, in many of the articles on this site. Crew driving has advantages, and disadvantages, when compared to solo driving.
Solo driving, or delivering with an app, also has advantages. When using an app for delivering items, the items for delivery, can be almost anything.
The courier has to be prepared for any type of cargo as a solo driver. Furthermore, the courier must constantly monitor a device, in order to field additional offers. In real time, as they happen.
The Crew
With crew driving things are more streamlined. It’s largely about the queue. The queue is the stack, or list, of upcoming deliveries. They are chronological with regard to the time the delivery was created.
For example, the deliveries that have been in the queue the longest, are at the top of the queue. These are the first to be delivered. In most crews the first driver takes the delivery at the top of the queue.
The next driver, in the driver queue, then takes the next delivery at the top of the delivery queue. This continues until the delivery queue is clear or all drivers are out on deliveries.
The first driver back, resets the driver queue, and the process repeats. This system is a balanced way to assure, that each courier has an equal chance, at snapping up those runs.
This system also guarantees the merchant’s delivery queue, is cleared, and all deliveries are successful. This, in turn, gives each courier the best chance for good opportunities.
The Perks
Solo drivers can be more selective of offers, and even turn down a series of offers. There is still a delivery queue but the dispatch board is a smartphone. This ability, for solo couriers to decline deliveries, does not mean the queue never empties.
The two, most notable delivery apps, have incentivized the delivery rush windows. The perks that are offered for delivery completions are similar between the apps, but come down to the same.
More deliveries. If the courier is able to satisfy the requirements, for advanced delivery opportunities, the perks will be unlocked. A common requirement is a minimum of 100 deliveries, in one month.
In the doordash app, the perk is ‘top dasher’. Unlocking the perk means, the courier can use the platform, to run deliveries at any time of the day. No scheduling needed.
The courier will also have access to larger offers, and more frequent offers of stacks. Therefore, the perks must be earned by working the job. This, in turn, keeps the delivery queue of the apps, at a minimum.
Earning the perks, and then using them to advance, is an excellent strategy to maximize payouts on deliveries. Stay safe out there!
