Penalty free dispatch courier opt out for a stalled pick-up
Prioritizing a delivery is part of the system in a pizza delivery shop. The shop may have additional orders. Perhaps there are customers dining in the pizza shop. Or customers arriving to pick up previously placed orders. However, those delivery orders will go out on time.
The process prioritizes a delivery. While also fulfilling the other types of orders. Furthermore, the *POS systems integrate with phone lines and the internet. This speeds up the influx of sales. Or deliveries. Respectively.
With this in mind, a crew courier is not looking at any delays getting out the door. That is where the delivery officially begins. Just outside the doors of the merchant. The time it takes the dispatch courier to get from point A (merchant) to point B (drop-off) is the real time. That’s the actual time, the customer is actually waiting on the courier.
Penalty free opt out
The dispatch courier has no control over when the order is ready. The courier is only able to influence the time between point A and point B. In fact, this is the same way for the solo courier using a delivery app.
Furthermore, the solo courier has a concern or two the crew courier doesn’t. For example, ratings. Solo couriers get a rating. They are for completions, or the amount of deliveries the courier accepts from the queue. Or likewise, the amount the courier declines. The ratings mean a different delivery experience for the solo courier.
For example, the solo courier has a limit on incomplete deliveries. In other words, there is a limited amount of deliveries the solo courier can fail to complete. The solo courier must keep the rating above this threshold. Otherwise, deactivation from the app could happen.
Furthermore, it is the job to complete deliveries. However, there are times when the completion of the delivery isn’t possible. For example, a cancelled delivery by the customer. Or the pickup location stalls the pickup. This is when waiting for a delivery at the pick-up merchant causes other ratings for the courier, a negative impact.
Dispatch courier
Especially the courier’s on time arrival at the drop-off. This means the courier leaves point A, behind schedule. Then arrives at the drop-off location late. This, after arriving at the pickup merchant ahead of schedule.
Recently one of the apps has begun testing penalty free opt outs. If the delivery stalls at the merchant, the courier has a penalty free way out. The app gives the courier a chance to unassign the delivery. With no impact on the completion rating. Penalty free. Moreover, this is a very useful feature. It triggers with an excessive wait time at the pickup merchant.
The courier must arrive on time and mark the arrival in the app. Then the countdown begins. If a pick-up gets too far beyond the pick-up time set by the app, it should be unassigned. The courier will have a chance to unassign the delivery, penalty free. The chance to opt out penalty free is a boon for the courier.
Courier
This is a limited feature. This means the courier has a limited supply. Use them sparingly, seems to be the idea. It is a positive step to see features like this rolling out of an app. It benefits the courier. Furthermore, it reduces the penalties faced by the courier. When it is circumstances beyond the courier’s control. Stay safe out there.
