On time or early ratings, are they useful?
Couriers prefer being on time. The only thing better than being on time is being early. Being early is bread and butter for the courier. Additionally, it is noted when the courier is running on time. It is also noted when the courier is late.
So, how important is the on time or early rating? Furthermore is it useful? When the courier arrives at the pickup location, and the cargo is not ready, who is late? Additionally, if the courier has to wait for the cargo to be prepared, the chance of the delivery being late is greater.
On Time or early ratings are they useful?
Indeed, it might be best to consider the situation the way the apps look at it. The reason being the on time or early statement. Also how the word early is used. Though it is listed as a metric or rating, it is rare to see it increase.
In fact, in one app, the rating seldom ever goes up. In this app only the ‘lates’ are recorded. Therefore, that is what drops the percentages and the numbers. A lot. Arrive early, or on time, and the numbers remain the same. Show up a minute late, and the score drops.
Then if the rating is not helpful, or useful, does it actually help a courier? If the rating falls below a certain threshold, it hurts the courier’s chances at improved deliveries. This isn’t helpful for the courier. However, it can be thought of as an incentive for diligence.
Furthermore, the rating criteria of an on time delivery should only include what the courier is directly responsible for. One is traffic. Such as timely workarounds for traffic detours and delays. The courier is actively involved in mitigating the effects of these.
On time
Merchant issues, and Beef Wellington prep times (and plating techniques) are not in the courier’s control. Therefore, it’s important for the courier to keep an eye on those arrival times. Additionally making sure to acknowledge places where the app asks for feedback. Such as why the courier is waiting. Or the conditions that are causing a delay.
The apps will give feedback to the merchants. This helps improve pickup ready times. With this in mind, the next courier should see more consistent ready times. Respectively. This topic will get detailed coverage with even more insight in the upcoming subscriber articles. Until then, stay safe out there.
