Yo driver, welcome back. What a fall day for road time! Still trying to get used to the cool down with that early nightfall! After the heat of the summer, it’s a refreshing change. Speaking of early, and useful segues, I thought it would be cool to go over one of the basics. Punctuality. (whoa 3rd grade teacher flashback) Let’s dial back the lesson learning, and just say on time, every time. Most of the time.
Spend a few years driving and delivering things, and you get used to being under a time limit. There’s a time limit for every aspect of the delivery. When you arrive to pick up the cargo. How long it takes to pick up the cargo. How long to get the cargo to the client, and on and on. There’s a clock ticking away, and each tick is one less towards completion.
Deadlines
Does it really matter though, racing to meet these timed deadlines? Depends on who you ask. The customer waiting on that order votes yes every time. In most delivery apps, good numbers can yield advantages that aren’t available otherwise. Achieving those numbers means lots of hustle, timing, and sometimes sheer luck.
Usually, those merchant pick up times are estimated based on the when the merchant will have the order ready. This includes the delivery systems used for ‘in house’ delivery crews, as well as delivery apps. Then there’s the distance /time between merchant and client/customer.
It’s okay to fudge those times a little, especially when things are hectic, like rush hour traffic, or unexpected slow downs. What’s lost in one segment, can sometimes be regained in the next segment. Especially if you know a few shortcuts!
It boils down to that final destination, the drop off point. Landing here, on time, is the main goal. It’s very helpful to know the area in times when there’s just minutes to spare. A quick decision to avoid a light by taking a side road, can be all the difference between 3 minutes late, and 2 minutes early.
Hang in there, I’m sure arrival will be soon! Some folks are so nice, leaving a sign for the driver! Hope they don’t have to wait long. That scratches the surface with timing and good times, it can get even more math like, but we dialed back the lesson learning to minimize flashbacks. Let’s hop to it, driver. Zoom Zoom.
