Lunch delivery and better returns
It’s that time again. Lunch time. It is possibly the best time of the day. Especially if there is a good lunch. However, most are at work during the sweet midday break. The rest are on the road during the sweet midday break. This mix is almost a conundrum.
Furthermore, trying to get from red light to red light during the lunch hour, is almost impossible. Combine that with busy merchants and long lines of hungry customers, and the delays are almost a guarantee.
Meanwhile back at the office, a hungry customer awaits the dream lunch, while at work. Waiting is the difference between a tip and no tip. The longer it is, the worse the outcome. This is an expected outcome. Experienced couriers can feel the seconds ticking away as the battle from light to light takes place.
Lunch delivery and better returns
Additionally, while standing inside a merchant location, waiting for the lunch delivery, the courier will feel that time is quickly running out. Furthermore the abundance of activity creates opportunities for more delay. For example, other orders being fulfilled while the delivery order is all but forgotten.
This is where the diligence of the courier is most important. The delivery order is a priority. If the merchant did not think so, the service would not be there. Therefore the courier must track the delivery while inside the merchant location. If the only way to the delivery is through a drive thru, it is likely going to be a minute.
A courier best practice, is avoiding a drive thru, at lunchtime. This should be considered when the delivery offer appears in the queue. When the courier is waiting, so is the drop-off location. At lunchtime the drop-off customer only has a certain amount of time. Furthermore, most customers plan this scenario. The delivery is ordered ahead of time. In this way it will hopefully, be in time, for lunchtime.
Saving Time
Keeping these things in mind, will help the courier shave valuable time off the delivery wait time.
With this in mind, the traffic involved with the lunch time delivery is really no different than the standard rush hour traffic. It’s still a pain in the ass. However, the diligent courier will have the work around , and shortcuts, to balance the difficulty. And delays. Stay safe out there.
