Late night delivery with a special request at closing time
Late evening has arrived. The courier is fresh from a dinner rush. Also the ride is warm, and ready for an after dinner rush…rush. Time for the sweet spot between the dinner rush and closing time. Just about every moment of this delivery window is unpredictable.
Sometimes, it’s in a far away delivery, and other times it can happen close by. Long periods of time can pass without an event. However, the experienced courier knows it will come. Furthermore, it’s not a matter of if it will happen, but when.
With this in mind, the stage is set. Now, the courier is about to accept the offer from the queue. After a few more moments of debate, the courier selects the confirm button. Subsequently, the courier can now go to the pick up location. Then it happens.
Late night delivery
A call comes in. Or perhaps it is a simple text from the drop-off location. It is a special request. Furthermore, the new courier reading this, may not know this happens. It takes a little bit of time doing it, before the odd things begin to get common. However, the special request, can be almost any damn thing.
Especially something off the wall. For example, meeting the drop-off customer somewhere not listed in the app. This is a red flag every time. The courier’s location should always be a known, known. Addresses and locations outside the app, should not be considered by the novice courier.
Everything isn’t always as it appears. Therefore, the safety checks and balances in the app are a benefit to the courier. Using this setup as a strength, is also a benefit to the courier. The solo courier needs all the road support available. There is no home base other than the one the courier provides for themselves.
This is the conundrum with the late night delivery scene. It is right next to closing time. Most merchant crews try to close as early as possible. Therefore, a late night delivery with a special request at closing time, can create a snafu ultra quick.
Special request
With this in mind it has to be up to the courier to decide whether or not to handle the special request. Indeed, there are times when the whole delivery can hinge on that special request. So don’t be afraid to drop it right away if it seems off. However, if the experienced courier feels the request is safe, and manageable, go ahead and save the day. Stay safe out there.
