Is the midnight run delivery becoming a new sensation?
A delivery rush is the preferred work environment for a courier. A delivery rush can happen when predicted. Likewise, a delivery rush can start at a random time and then carry on indefinitely. Or it can end suddenly, leaving the rest of the evening quiet, and slow. Until the midnight hour approaches. Then it is very possible for another type of rush to take over. The late, late rush.
This is a real event and it happens nightly. Different nights will bring different versions of it, but the show is the same. It’s a last minute delivery. Or, the midnight run. It is a time when hopeful delivery customers try to get that last minute delivery. Not only can it be a highly busy time, but also a chance at higher paying offers. Furthermore, certain merchants stay open later to accommodate the late night rush. Both delivery and carry out.
Whether it be a novelty delivery, or a night shift worker with a day off, the last minute delivery at midnight, is a real phenomenon. It is reliable as long as there is an open merchant to accommodate. Similarly the offers will come from the open merchants. Therefore on holidays when almost every merchant is closed, the late night delivery scene feels the impact.
The Midnight Run Delivery
It is also important to keep in mind how quickly the final hour of the delivery day passes. This is especially true with far away deliveries. It is easy to forget the time it takes to reach the drop-off is also the time it takes to return to the heart of the zone. Additionally, there are only a handful of merchants running a late delivery program. Therefore, a courier can easily tie up most of an hour with one delivery completion.

With this in mind, it is a benefit to only accept nearby offers. It is true that there may be an additional one or two deliveries, however that isn’t the essence of the midnight run. Almost every after hours delivery offer has one thing in common with the rest. They are usually far away deliveries. It is almost a rule that a midnight run must be twenty miles away. Or more. However, this is what makes it a thing.
In fact, it’s easy to understand that last minute craving. Or the last minute decision to have dinner arrive by courier. Convenience is always a perk of the at home delivery. Furthermore, if it can happen at midnight, that’s even better. Especially for the night shift worker, with a well earned day off. There is a curious shortage of overnight eating places. Likewise, most grocery stores close well before midnight. Therefore a courier, and a well timed late night order, are the dinner plans.
But Is It a New Sensation?
Experienced couriers know the answer to the question above, without hesitation. The late, late delivery is not a new sensation. At least, not in terms of, never before. The midnight run delivery becomes more reliable with the changing season. For example, the beginning of autumn. This is also the time of year when schools are back in session. Therefore it is a changing season.
And before long the holidays will play a part in delivery demand as well. This is a good indicator that the midnight run will stay for a while. The goal is to get as many of the late deliveries as is possible. However, high mileage drop-offs, may only leave time for one completion. This is especially true with the last hour of the evening. The last minute delivery is nothing if not unpredictable. Stay safe out there.
