Individual preference builds the best queue strategy
A delivery queue has its challenges. One thing a courier can expect is a variety of choices. Some may be high mileage deliveries. And others might be short mileage deliveries. And then at times, the delivery opportunity just feels right. That is one of the perks of a delivery app. The ability to select the best offer. The best offer for the circumstances. And every courier’s circumstances are different. Furthermore, every courier has a reason why they are using a delivery app.
Some couriers use the delivery app because it makes for a good sidehustle. It goes well with a hectic or limited schedule. Additionally, there are many ways a delivery app can increase earnings. From quick delivery, to catering deliveries. A delivery app has a variety of offers. Furthermore, it’s possible to be selective. Although there are only moments to make a decision, it’s still an advantage to have a preference.

For example, faraway deliveries. They aren’t for every courier. In fact, there are couriers that only run short distance deliveries. It is a matter of preference. Similarly there are preferences for higher paying deliveries. Of course, every courier wants the higher pay. However, not every offer from the queue is high paying. Higher paying offers are rare. Not that they don’t happen. They just happen infrequently. Unless the courier is a platinum kind of runner.
Individual Preference
The platinum courier. Sounds like an upgrade. However, it is a combination of ratings. Most delivery apps have a system. The system is about the ratings. For example, the on-time rating. Or the delivery completion rating. And then, there is the all important acceptance rating. That one rating has some serious influence. Furthermore, it has a tendency to conflict with individual preference.
New couriers might struggle trying to get balance from the queue. However, the queue is governed by different factors. Proximity and volume of business are important factors. They may play a big part in the offers. However, it’s the algorithm, pulling most of the strings. Furthermore, the algorithm is proficient in catching on. Then it works the queue as the courier works the queue. This is when individual preferences are a viable backup plan.
Trying to outfox an algorithm can be costly. Not that it can’t be done. It’s just that it’s not practical for the courier. Especially the courier that is driving down the highway, trying to decide if money can be made on the current offer. Therefore, experienced couriers develop an individual strategy. Moreover, it varies from courier to courier. It often relies on the circumstances a courier is working with.
The Best Queue Strategy
With this in mind, the courier may have an older vehicle. Therefore, wear and tear are big considerations. This might mean the courier prefers deliveries that are short distances away. Or perhaps the courier will decline mountain deliveries because of the wear on the vehicle. Similarly, there might be reasons why the courier only selects faraway deliveries. Sometimes it’s because the price is right. Other times it might be to get to the other side of the zone.

Whatever the case may be, individual preference is a perk, and a benefit. For the new courier, it eventually becomes a queue strategy. Furthermore, a strategy that works, is a bonus. It makes a difference in the bottom line. However, since every courier’s circumstances are different, it’s a personal journey. Or a personal strategy. Developed through experience.
New couriers will quickly pick up on a strategy. It might take a few weeks. Or several shifts in a row. But a strategy will emerge. It takes trial and error, to lock in on something that fits. Once the courier has a system for the queue, the selection process is a little less stressful. And less stress, means there’s a chance for more fun in the delivery. Stay safe out there.
