How to put the fun back in the delivery experience
A quiet evening at home. Relaxing and stress free. Finally the day’s work is complete. And the stage is set for some serious binge watching enjoyment. With favorite beverage in hand, there is only one order of business left. Order a food delivery. Before the show starts. It’s a piece of cake. And easy as pie. Just open an app and tap a few buttons. Then, let the fun begin. Especially if there’s going to be pie.
Everything about the at home food delivery boils down to convenience. In the example above, the at home delivery is not the main event. However, it is a definite enhancement for the plan of a fun evening. One dedicated courier makes all the difference. Nothing says convenience like a timely delivery. From there a relaxing and enjoyable evening begins.
With this in mind, the at home customer expects a certain level of professionalism. Especially from an at home delivery of hot fresh food. Experienced couriers strive to provide a professional delivery experience. Particularly with attention to detail. For example, the special notes included with the delivery instructions. There could be a specific request in the special notes. Or a special instruction like don’t knock or ring the bell.
The Fun In the Delivery Experience
A special instruction like don’t knock, or ring the bell, has a purpose. This instruction usually appears on a leave at the door delivery. Furthermore, it means the drop-off customer will know the delivery is at the door. Similarly the drop-off customer wants to keep the drop-off on the down low. One of the most common reasons is a sleeping baby, or children already asleep for the evening.

Therefore a loud knock on the door, or the ringing of the doorbell, would take all the fun out of the evening. From the customer’s point of view, the delivery is an enhancement to the fun of the evening. A missed special note, will alter the delivery’s effect on the at home experience. This means a slightly disappointed at home customer. Which could mean a less than fun tip.
From the courier’s perspective, the primary focus should be the at home delivery experience. The job is about quality service. It isn’t a chore of drudgery, or an unappreciated task to drop as quickly as possible. Where’s the fun in that? In fact, the courier’s experience has the most potential for fun.
The Delivery Experience
The setting sun on the horizon. The wheels turning and the road singing along. Wind rushing through the open window as the miles tick away. Digging on the radio looking for that special tune. Before long, it’s only two miles to the drop-off location. After a quick, but friendly drop-off, it’s time to move on to the next.
The trip to the next pickup location has some elaborate scenery. Things that are only viewable while on the road. In fact, there are many scenic routes that offer a view like no other. Add to this a cold and delicious beverage. And it is almost impossible not to have fun. Don’t forget that special tune on the boogie box.
With all of this adventure, a courier has excitement built into every delivery opportunity. It is entirely possible to bring that energy to the front door. Thereby creating a fun and worthwhile delivery experience for the at home customer. And that is a positive way to put the fun back into the delivery experience. Stay safe out there.
