How to keep delivery delays from getting lost in the abyss
Ah, the abyss. That strange bottomless pit that no one wants to find in a cave underground. Much less the lobby of a hot fresh food merchant. This is true under ordinary circumstances. And it’s especially true, in extraordinary circumstances.
Additionally the abyss is nothing to sneeze at. With this in mind, by all accounts, it is similar to a bottomless pit. The idea is that anything that winds up there, is never heard from again.
When this happens the courier may wonder if it is worth it to try to salvage the pick-up. This is a grey area. It is also a fine line example. In the sense that there’s a fine line between making money and losing money. When a delivery pick-up falls into the abyss zone, money is usually being lost.
Delivery Delays
With this in mind, this article is continuing the strategy of recovering from a delayed delivery. A delay in the pick-up. Respectively. This part of the delivery is an important time in the delivery process. Ideally the courier will arrive to pick up cargo that is already, ready.
When that is not the case, many things can happen. The first thing, is not an actual trip to the abyss. Although it may feel like it, after a sizable delivery delay. The courier may start to wonder what happened to the cargo. The temptation to start looking for the missing golden egg, can become greater, the longer the delay.
This is a good thing. The courier can use the temptation, to check on the status of the pick-up. Or, cargo. It is helpful to make an inquiry after some time waiting. Furthermore, this allows the courier to update the waiting drop-off location.
Not only does this allow the courier to update a waiting customer, but also it alerts the merchant staff, that the courier is still available for the delivery. Late night deliveries happen at a time when merchant staff are usually trying to complete closing work.
Lost in the Abyss
With this in mind, it is not uncommon for merchant staff to have competing priorities. Especially near the closing hour. When the courier is actively engaged with merchant staff, the chances of keeping delivery delays from getting lost in the abyss, are much greater.
Staying diligent and watching for any indication the cargo is about to be ready is one part of side stepping delivery delays. However, there is uncertainty about how long of a wait is too long of a wait. This will vary among couriers. It will also be featured in the next article. Possibly. Stay safe out there.
