How to choose the best dispatch offer from a delivery queue

It happens fast. There are only a few seconds to spare. Every detail counts. And the wrong choice could be costly. This is the moment when intense concentration matters. Therefore, a quiet moment and some quality time to scrutinize every detail, is just what the courier needs. However, what the courier has is less than forty five seconds. Additionally, the chance to linger and study, is less of a priority than keeping the wheels between the ditches.

The process of accepting an offer from a delivery queue is quick. There are only a few seconds to scan the most important details. Furthermore, the courier and the vehicle are moving fast. This means one eye on the road, and the other eye…on the road. It also means a visual snapshot of the dispatch screen is what the courier will be working with. From this visual snapshot, the courier must extract the most relevant information.

With this in mind, every courier has a different idea about the most relevant information. Whether the mileage, or the money offered, there will be something relevant to the courier that stands out. Perhaps it’s the merchant, or the area where the drop-off will take place. No matter the preference, the courier will weigh that option first. For example, the delivery payout is ten dollars and the courier only accepts offers above eight dollars.

How To Choose the Best Dispatch Offer

The delivery payout is ten dollars and the courier only accepts offers above eight dollars. The green light on the payout total, means the courier will consider the rest of the offer. After all, it’s only been nine seconds so far. There are still thirty six seconds to go. Ample time to consider the estimated mileage. This one is tricky. Estimated mileage is just that. Estimated. Experienced couriers always have an open mind for alternative routes.

Alternative routes can save fuel. They can also save time. However, they can also waste time and resources. Therefore, the mileage detail in the delivery offer can be subjective. Every courier has a number. If the delivery offer from the queue falls in that range, the courier will continue scanning the rest of the details. Besides twenty nine seconds are still on the timer.

Now that the courier has the money, and the mileage, the rest of the offer can be considered. And the merchant is the next area most couriers consider. This one is a matter of experience. A good delivery offer can become costly with an under performing merchant. Likewise, a reliable merchant, keeps a delivery on track and on time. Similarly a merchant location with consistently long wait times can skewer the whole delivery experience for the customer. Not to mention the courier’s ratings.

    The Delivery Queue

The courier’s ratings are an important asset. They are the difference between lucrative offers and low-ball offers. If the merchant detail has no downside, the courier will continue to consider the offer. There are still nineteen seconds left on the timer. Furthermore, the drop-off location is as important as all the rest. Likewise, it can be the show stopper for the offer.

In other words, it matters where the courier ends up. For example, drop-offs that take the courier too far out of a chosen zone. The mileage may be right, but the endpoint is all wrong. A drop-off location at the top of a mountain is a no go for the courier with a potentially unreliable vehicle. Most couriers know the limits of their vehicles. Therefore the drop-off location is a critical part of the courier’s decision.

Speaking of the decision. There are now only nine seconds left to accept, or decline, the dispatch offer. Plenty of time for a yes or no. The queue is waiting. But not for long. Stay safe out there.
