Great Scot! – A Climb to Remember
Safety is an excellent thing to have in mind most of the time. Excuse me, all the time! There are several articles on this site that detail basic safety insights. Many of which are tied to a comprehensive maintenance schedule.
There is a link to some of them in this post. Furthermore, more detailed site navigation, is on the way. Not only will articles be easier to find, but better organized. The website design team will be working tirelessly, to make that happen asap!
A Climb
Great Scot! – A climb to remember is for real. I got the pic, and it was fun.
It was indeed a driveway and that is also a part of the job. Navigating the occasionally very difficult, driveway.
The driveway can be one of the hardest parts of completing a drop off. Depending on the condition of the ride, and the driveway, it might just be a flat no go. Most driveways do not have the additional room at the top, for turning around, once there.
A courier will have to back down what was just climbed. Furthermore, throw in a moist blanket of pine needles, and things will get interesting. If it’s possible to safely walk the run in, take the cardio it’s cheaper than a tow.
Driveways that are so long it’s impractical to walk them, are a tricky prospect. Especially, when it’s not possible to see the destination, or the drive is a dirt road that goes off into the deep dark woods. And the unknown. Similarly, there’s no way to predict what’s ahead, therefore staying alert is critical.
Some driveways are simply meant for all terrain vehicles. Unpaved and deeply rutted, they are a no go for low ground clearance vehicles. Serious damage can be incurred by trying to navigate this type of driveway. Therefore, taking some cardio does a body good.
Thumb Rule
A good rule of thumb, is getting as close as possible with the ride, and safely finishing on foot, if need be, or if it looks as though caution is warranted. Spare the ride for the next run. Moreover, in extreme cases (they do exist) calling ahead is even better.
Getting stuck in a driveway is the opposite of what a courier needs for a good day’s pay.
Furthermore, having the ride break free, and barrel down a driveway hill, into whatever may or may not stop it at the bottom, is no picnic. In fact, it’s expensive and dangerous.
Driver skill and experience will play a large role in these situations. Generally speaking, it’s much safer, for just about everyone, to safely secure the ride at the road and get some free cardio. Stay safe out there!
