Going the extra mile for improved earnings
The extra mile is more than just a faraway run. It’s also a standard of service. In fact, there are different levels of service. Customer service, that is. Once upon a time, the quality of customer service was key to repeat business. Times may have changed, but the old recipes still have relevance. In other words, there’s a reason it’s called side hustle and not side leisurely. Hustle is the same as better than average customer service.
With this in mind, going the extra mile, is one possible path to improved earnings. Furthermore, it can lead to a boost in ratings. Although it may seem trivial, a ratings boost is a benefit for the courier. Not only does it improve reputation, but also opportunities in-app. Additionally, the improved reputation is a confidence boost for the at home customer. The potential for an outstanding delivery sets the tone for the drop-off.
The idea of going the extra mile doesn’t take large amounts of effort. It is as simple as finding a shortcut that saves time. Or remembering every detail in the special instructions. Furthermore, these things fall under the accuracy rating. When the courier has a top level rating for accuracy, delivery customers reap the benefits. Similarly, and eventually, so does the courier.
Going the Extra Mile
Ratings are helpful. However, going the extra mile, isn’t always about ratings. Sometimes it’s about route changes. Or trouble with a misplaced GPS pin. In fact, some delivery customers know about GPS pin issues. They will alert the courier in the special instructions in the app. Following the instructions is another way of going the extra mile. This one is about attention to detail. It’s also an important one.

Selecting efficient routes is another way to go the extra mile. Although it’s about saving a mile or two, it’s also a time saver. A timely delivery is peak customer service. Furthermore, efficient route selection is a time saver. For couriers and at home customers alike. It is often overlooked. However, there is usually a more efficient route than the GPS suggested route. Not always, but enough of the time to make it worth the extra effort. Save five minutes on each delivery, in a series of ten, and that’s fifty minutes saved. It adds up.
The scenario above is about timely delivery. It does not mention high rates of speed. That is because it is not an issue. With efficient route selection and general hustle, a quicker delivery time is the usual result. This is similar to the speed racer in heavy traffic. The one who unsafely races around cars only to end up behind them at the next light. That type of speeding is more often associated with one step up, then two steps back.
Improved Earnings
The goal is about improved earnings. Over the course of a delivery shift, going the extra mile has positive outcomes. Whether it is texting when there is a delay. Or helping the delivery customer with substitutions. No matter the situation, striving for quality customer service, is the mark of a professional courier. It is also one way to raise the potential for an increase in earnings. Stay safe out there.
