Getting rated, how to put the best foot forward.
In the old days of delivery, couriers were tethered to a dispatch board. And the wall map. Indeed, if the courier needed directions on the delivery, it was possible to write them down. By taking notes from the wall map.
Furthermore, in those days, a courier became adept at memorizing locations. And the ways to find them. With this in mind, it is important to note, the rating system in those days was primitive. Basic. However, it was a system that improved over time. Or did it?
Clearly, experienced couriers have witnessed the evolution of the business. Indeed, from the days of fixed wall maps, to GPS linked handheld super computers. Similarly, delivery equipment has evolved. As well as the aforementioned rating system.
Getting Rated, how to put the best foot forward.
With this in mind, we’re at the center of the article. The rating system. That thing is like a bad dream. Every courier is subject to one rating or another. As mentioned above, the rating system was once very primitive. Basic.
It consisted of the delivery customer calling the manager of the courier, and complaining about the courier. The manager, in turn, would operate on the courier. Rating the courier, so to speak. Too many of those ratings, and the courier would be off the ratings board, completely.
Here is a question for the couriers and drivers that see this blog. Do you appreciate the ratings system? Furthermore do you think it is a benefit for couriers? This is an expansive topic. Comments from all couriers are welcome. It is also possible to post comments anonymously. The feedback will be helpful for other couriers.
I will start the conversation. The current rating system is ineffective and vague. It’s too broad and hardly covers the stats that are relevant to couriers. This is in reference to most all rating systems for the courier.
Merchant delivery systems vary by merchant. There are still merchants that don’t use a driver rating system. Those that do, usually have a dedicated app. As well as a widely recognized brand.
Best Foot Forward
These are the opinions of a courier. Additionally, this will be an expanded topic in the upcoming subscribers area. Clearly, it helps the courier to have better than average ratings. Timely pick-ups. And timely drop-offs. As well as acknowledging special instructions, help keep the wheels turning. Or help with basic ratings, however…
Something a crew courier learns quickly, ~ ratings are going to be bad sometimes. It’s a given. It’s also true. Sometimes ratings are bad even though the courier’s work was outstanding. Putting a lot of stock in a rating is a gamble. Putting a lot of effort in the delivery is the way to put the best foot forward. Stay safe out there.
