Gate codes, special instructions, and don’t go in there
It’s that time of year again. It is hard to believe that we have come full circle. However, here we are again. And we are ready to talk about that one word that has every courier feeling uptight and slightly on edge. That’s right…Safety! Not only is this a good time of year to talk about safety, but also it will help get the mind off the other nightmare word. That’s right! Gas!
I’m sure there are plenty of words to worry about, in some way or another. At this time of year. Therefore, safety and gas, will be the interwoven theme in this article. Additionally, safety will feature in most of this article. Beginning with darkness. It’s been said many times in many articles. Furthermore, it’s the topic of more than one employee video. (The video that is shown when hiring on as a crew courier.)
Gate codes, special instructions, and don’t go in there
If it doesn’t feel right, don’t. If the instincts are throwing red flags. Don’t ignore them. If an area is not well lit, with clear views all around, don’t go. Make the call instead. From the safety of the locked and running ride. Most drop-off customers are happy to assist the courier in locating them easily.
Which coincides with the next safety rule. Don’t go inside a stranger’s house. It may seem strange to see it as a warning, however it is a top safety concern. There are only the rarest of circumstances, when a courier would need to enter a private dwelling. An emergency is one of the few reasons this might take place. Otherwise the courier is fine on the porch. Even in the rain. Just sing a little tune, and don’t go in.
The missing detail
About those gate codes. Sometimes they just get in the way. Mainly because they are not there. In the app. That is when the courier is outside, looking in. There is also a look on the courier’s face. However, it is mostly hidden by the sunglasses. This is also when the courier checks the special instructions, but they are not much help. In some cases.
With this in mind, it becomes a courier’s choice, on how to proceed. With a little patience, the courier can find a way. Furthermore, it is possible that the drop-off customer will return the text about the gate code. Unlikely. But possible, just the same.
It bears repeating that the special instructions, sometimes, hold the key. Or the code. As the case may be. Nevertheless, it is important to look there, as well as anywhere else a customer may have put more clues. In the app. For the solo courier. Stay safe out there.
