Yo driver, good day for running, the sunshine was glorious! The season is changing, and fall is in the air! It is brilliant and invigorating, quite possibly the best time of the year! If you’re a star gazer, like me, the nights of the fall are a canvass of sparkly, delight. Soon, my favorite spooky spectre, Jack O Lantern, will be at most every door, lighting the way with that spooky smile! Many neighborhoods will begin decorating for the fall, with many people outdoors and occupying the roads of their neighborhoods, more frequently. So let’s talk fall driving and holiday bank.
Holiday bank is as much a myth as it is a reality, kind of like that little contradiction. There’s a lot of timing at play, and it’s easy to think big holiday equals big pay. Often it’s the day after or before the holiday, that nets bank. The holiday delivery scene depends heavily on the particular holiday. One of the top delivery days of the year is Mother’s day. One of the slowest and least profitable delivery holidays is Christmas day. In my experience.
One holiday in particular can be a real tricky one. Please excuse the play on words, I couldn’t resist. Yes, I’m talking about Halloween! The one grand night with three possible rush windows. The early, when all the trick or treating is happening, the late night, adults and parties, and the after hours. Halloween after hours deliveries can be,….interesting. The early Halloween rush is simply a stress event. Know it going in and it helps a lot. It’s also the underlying theme of this little write up.
Of all the holiday delivery days a driver gears up for, Halloween is the most unpredictable and stressful. Most every delivery, between late afternoon and early evening , will go to a residential neighborhood. The roads will be filled with pedestrians, mostly children. There will be additional vehicles on roads to support the trick or treating crowds. Careful and deliberate driving during this time is paramount. Once in a neighborhood, all speed is gone, safety is priority number one.
That does mean a large quantity of runs is less likely during the early phase of Halloween night. No need to worry, the late night and after hours crowds will more than get you through. It is still lucrative to work into the early rush, it’s just restrictive due to crowds. You ain’t gettin’ rich there driver! No need to hurry!
