Driver qualifications and focus on there’s no app for that
Once upon a time, on a delivery crew somewhere, two couriers were talking. It was near the end of the shift, and an extremely active rush. One courier is lamenting on the intensity of the previous rush. Although the earnings were above average the stress was uncommon. The other courier agrees. Then they begin discussing the benefits of a third courier, joining the ranks.
With this in mind, it isn’t long before the drawbacks of an additional courier begin to surface. For example, the lost courier. Each of the two couriers has helped the lost courier. At one time or another. Therefore, the new courier should be experienced and able to find a drop-off. Regardless of where it is.
Furthermore, it would be a bonus if the new courier is a good driver. This was something both couriers could agree on. Though it was not simple to define, there is a difference between a new courier and a good driver. It seemed the good driver was definitely the better team player.
Driver Qualifications and Focus
This is the underlying benefit of a crew courier. The crew. This is the reason a good driver matters to a crew. Additionally, driver qualifications are sometimes about more than road savvy. In fact, it’s more about being a part of a team. Furthermore, an experienced courier, can assimilate with a team much faster, than a greenhorn.
This was the unspoken ideal between the two couriers. Greenhorn or good driver? On the one hand the greenhorn would learn the system from the ground up. However, the experienced good driver, would likely be a self starter. This would benefit the entire team. And there’s no app for that. It’s something that defines a good driver. Experience.
While that may sound obvious, it is also true. Experience is not only a great teacher but also a great tool. It is especially effective in a team environment. Therefore a good driver, is a good fit, for a team environment. This improvement for the team means a smoother flowing system. In most cases.
There’s No App for That
The idea of a good team, is the successful crew courier’s, best kept secret. In fact, there are more team players than just the merchant’s in-house delivery crew. For example, a reliable mechanic. One of the most important tools, in the courier’s tool kit, is a reliable mechanic. A mechanic that is familiar with, and has completed work on, the courier’s ride. In other words, a mechanic with a history. Reliable.
Although there are many apps, there’s no app for that. This mechanic usually has a shop that can receive a towed vehicle. After hours. On a weekend. In the rain. This is more than just a mechanic. It’s a hospital for the ride. A safe haven to have the wheels fixed. Especially if the wheels fell off.
While there are apps to locate a mechanic, and even a mechanic’s shop, it takes time to develop, a reliable mechanic. Likewise to develop a history of repairs, and maintenance, on the ride. This history simplifies the diagnostics, on future repairs. Something to consider, while trying to make ends meet. Stay safe out there.
