Drive safe and save an extra three cute little critters

Drive safe and save an extra three cute little critters.

Road signs and street signs are helpful guides. They show up everywhere along the road. Some have basic information. Like the direction and the highway number. Other signs have the distance to the next town. Or the next two towns. Furthermore, many modern highway signs are digital. They give dynamic updates about the road conditions ahead. In some cases the estimated time of the delay flashes across the sign.

That is helpful, relatable information. And designed for quick absorption. Similar to an offer from a delivery queue. There’s only a split second to read the details. It takes longer than that to put on the reading glasses. Everyone who’s ever driven a long trip has been there before. Blink once and the sign disappears. In fact, it’s over a mile behind by the time the blink finishes. If that much highway can pass in the blink of an eye, it’s at least three times as much during a screen check.

With this in mind, safe driving is more than just a suggestion. It’s a concept that makes the road a viable option for travel. Many insurance companies have marketing campaigns geared toward safety goals. For example, drive safe and save money on premiums. Or, drive safe and save twenty percent on the deductible. Whatever the offer may be, the terms are clear, drive safe and save.

Drive Safe and Save Three Cute Little Critters

There are more than a few unspoken savings associated with the drive safe and save concept. Saving gas and other mechanically necessary fluids come to mind. Additionally, there is saving the excessive wear on tires. Extreme speed and ignoring the rules of the road may seem like an advantage. However that is seldom the case. Extreme speed moves the courier rapidly forward. A sign on the side of the highway vanishes in the blink of an eye. At seventy miles an hour that sign never had a chance.

    drive safe and save

To be seen. That sign went by so fast it never had the chance to be seen. While it’s true the sign was stationary, it still represents how quickly speed moves things. Furthermore, there is quite a difference between being in the vehicle, and being outside the vehicle. Especially at speed. The forces feel different because the vehicle has velocity. Therefore, the courier gains velocity from the vehicle. The problem is the difference between the courier and the vehicle. It’s about one and a half tons.

Stopping on a dime has its challenges. Furthermore, it’s not an exact science. If it were, there would be less road critter trauma. It comes along at unexpected times, but when it does there is definitely drama from the trauma. This is usually the exact flashback moment of a previous close encounter with a high risk critter.

    Drive Safe and Save

Drive safe and save a critter. Or two critters. In fact, it doesn’t even have to come down to slamming on the brakes and ditching the vehicle. In many situations, merely observing the speed limit is enough cushion to save at least one slow moving, furry critter. It’s an easy road maneuver when the velocity of the vehicle matches the speed limit.

Speed limits are more than restrictive aggravations. There is a reason the narrow winding back road has a speed limit of twenty five miles an hour. Things like road banking and the curves and the grade of the road shoulder (if there is a shoulder) play a part in how well a standard vehicle handles the road, relative to the speed of the vehicle. All that, and more, goes into the speed limit of a given road. Therefore, running at or below the posted speed limit, creates the best chance for successfully saving two (or more) cute little furry critters.

Additionally, for the courier, it gives the best viewing speed for finding the correct address. There is no uniform code that has address numbers universally placed on the same side of all mailboxes. Likewise there is no best way to spot those elusive numbers on a nighttime delivery. Therefore a reduction in speed is the first step in getting a visual confirmation of the correct house number.

    The Extra Cute Little Critters

Neighborhoods are more than a workplace for the courier. A courier should remember that the neighborhood is the home zone of the at home customer. While the courier may finish the drop-off and get the rock out of there, the at home customer will be the one left in the dust. The courier’s dust. A courier should avoid showing disregard for the home base of a delivery customer. This means the neighborhood critters as well.

    drive safe and save

Drive safe and save the neighborhood critters. They are the curious ones. Sometimes they appear to be somewhat hungry too. Maybe a little too curious, but always eager and on the front line of the home base. Similarly they can be at the door one second and down at the foot of the driveway, two seconds later. Neighborhood driving is a level above street driving and highway driving. Neighborhoods are home zones and comfort zones and even friend zones. When the courier buzzes in to make a delivery, it’s in the middle of an established routine. So to speak.

Cute little furry critters get used to routines as well. This includes pets, and non pets and pets that are not pets, but want to be pets. A courier has run into at least one of these, if not three. Therefore, drive safe, and save more than time. The next red light up ahead will still be there thirty seconds from now. The highway may or may not be clear around the bend up ahead. However, the road signs and the street signs are helpful guides along the way. Stay safe out there.
