Double edge delivery a high mileage gamble
Every courier prefers a quick delivery. One way to achieve this is by accepting short mileage, delivery offers only. However, this system is for the courier using a delivery app. The crew courier runs with a crew. Therefore the next up, is the next up. This is the advantage the crew courier has over the solo courier. Similarly, the solo courier has the advantage of selecting the next delivery offer.
The delivery queue of a delivery app is the starting point for each delivery opportunity. Every delivery is different, particularly in regard to location, amount offered for the job, and the merchant involved. When an offer appears in the queue the courier sees the following:
- The estimated one way mileage total.
- The pickup location or merchant.
- The amount offered, including the tip.
- The estimated time the delivery will take.
- The time remaining to accept or decline the offer.
These items are the main focus of the courier when the offer is presented in the queue. Furthermore the courier is comparing this information with available resources. The idea is to add to the overall earnings. Not take away from them.
Double edge delivery a high mileage gamble
The high mileage delivery is a gamble for the solo courier. The room for profit isn’t as great when excessive resources are used. This is why a high mileage delivery can feel more like a double edge delivery. In other words, it could be risky coming and going. For example maybe there are enough resources to complete the delivery, but not enough to return to the starting zone.
Additionally, the high mileage delivery is often located in a very remote location. Or it is in another zone. One thing is certain, wherever the courier travels, there must be at least a partial return journey. Occasionally the algorithm is able to present the courier with a delivery to carry for the return trip. However, this relies on whether there are merchants in the far away drop-off location.
This is part of the gamble. It is the consideration the courier must apply when considering the offer from the queue. In most high mileage delivery offers the amount for a high mileage delivery is larger in comparison to the nearby drop-off location. Therefore the courier must take enough time to consider the earnings and the time involved. This will indicate if the offer is actually a gain, or a potential loss. Stay safe out there.
