Delivery timing in the background for better drop-offs.
Being on time is one thing every courier strives for. It’s part of the job to be mindful of the clock. Shave a minute here, gain a few minutes there, and end up with a timely result. At the very least, the courier makes it on time. It’s a proactive effort. Furthermore, there is a difference between a timely delivery, and delivery timing. Both are about saving time. However, they go about it differently.
With this in mind, the timely delivery is about being ahead of each waypoint in the delivery. For example, arriving early to the pickup location. And then arriving early to the drop-off location. A timely delivery can progress exponentially fast if the circumstances are right. Just as being late, can have a ripple effect, so can being early. In fact, the timely delivery is most effective when it is faster than the at home customer imagined it could be.
That is an ideal delivery in most cases. However, there are some situations that require a more scheduled approach. This is where delivery timing becomes the goal. For example, a delivery customer is at work. The delivery customer orders a delivery from the delivery app. Through the app, and eventually through experience, the delivery timing is considered, and then set. A scheduled delivery is common for customers at work.
Delivery timing in the background
The good news is the courier doesn’t have to spend time, arranging the right times. Thanks to the sophistication of the delivery apps, the planning and alignment, happen behind the scenes. So to speak. This means the timing of the merchant, aligns with the courier’s location, relative to the drop-off. Furthermore, the app does much of this on the fly. Except it’s more like the app can process its available options many times faster than a courier can.

Therefore, a delivery customer with a lunch break at eight in the evening, will order ahead of time. The app will factor in the parameters of the delivery. In the example just noted, the drop-off time needs to be eight in the evening. At the delivery customer’s workplace. Similarly, these are the working parameters of the delivery. The delivery app handles the delivery timing. Which includes creating the order at the closest merchant.
While the courier moves to the pickup location, the merchant prepares the order. In some cases, the order may be ready, already. It largely depends on the delivery app. The delivery timing comes from the app in conjunction with the merchant. This is just a glimpse of the different elements in delivery timing. Fortunately, the app handles the details in the background. This creates the conditions that can result in a better drop-off.
Better Drop-Offs
If the courier only needs to monitor the time, so much the better. Staying on point is not difficult, if the main details are covered. For example, that eight o’clock lunch bell. The timing of the drop-off is important. It’s the beginning of a lunch break. Every minute lost, is one closer to the back to work call. In this type of situation delivery timing is critical. Believe me, it’s critical.
The app working in the background is a benefit for the courier. It brings the different elements of the delivery together. This is one way delivery timing differs from a timely delivery. The timely delivery is about speed. And delivery timing, is focused on accuracy. Especially on time accuracy. This is also a large part of a catering delivery. Timing is even more structured with a catered delivery. More on this in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
