Delivery techniques of the successful courier
Every delivery is different. The process is the same from drop-off to drop-off. Pick something up at point A. Then, deliver it to point B. From there, repeat the process on the next delivery. Simple and easy. And profitable. Maybe. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. And that is a mantra for the delivery driver. In fact, when things go as planned, then is the time to be most careful.
With this in mind, the successful courier is successful for a reason. Furthermore, the term successful is relative. For the intent of this article, it does not mean a pocket full of gold. Although that would be nice. It certainly would help with that new set of tires. Or that replacement fuel. However, pockets full of gold seldom happen. Of course it’s possible, but very unlikely.
So how does the successful courier, become successful? Tips are mostly average, except on major holidays, when they plummet. Okay, that was a bit of humor to see if you were following along. In fact, major holidays are usually outstanding work days for the courier. The mood of the delivery customer is usually a generous one on major holidays. This can be a regular bonus for a courier. Working the major holidays is one technique every successful courier uses.
Delivery Techniques
Another sure fire way to find success as a courier is to target the rush. Yes it’s quite a rush blazing down the highway. However, that isn’t the rush that pays. A rush is an increase in delivery demand. It can happen suddenly. Similarly, it can build over time.

This doesn’t mean a rush can’t be predictable. Another delivery technique of the successful courier is to work the rush window. This is the most likely times a rush will begin. For example, the dinner rush. The successful courier is on the road and ready by five p.m. The dinner rush window is ideal between that five p.m. start, and nine p.m. Respectively.
The four hour window gives the successful courier ample time to accept as many offers as possible. Likewise, a lunch rush has a window of opportunity. Furthermore, it starts before noon. The typical lunch rush sees the courier on the road no later than ten thirty in the morning. This is because the delivery customer wants to eat lunch when it’s lunchtime. Therefore, the order is placed earlier.
The Successful Courier
The delivery techniques of the successful courier are many and varied. Furthermore, every courier develops ways to improve on their techniques. With the goal being an increase in earnings. Showing up early, and staying late, are just the basics. However, they count as constructive techniques, to improve earnings.
Finally, customer service, is a technique that benefits the courier, and the delivery customer. It benefits the courier because it increases the odds for a good tip. It benefits the delivery customer because, who doesn’t like quality customer service? This one technique alone can improve a courier’s earnings over the course of an entire delivery shift. Something to consider. Stay safe out there.
