A delivery from a delivery app is now a common service. Almost everyone has experienced at home delivery. Once upon a time, it was more of a novelty. In fact, before delivery apps appeared, the at home delivery came from a delivery restaurant. Furthermore, it was mostly about pizza. However, it was a dedicated service. Therefore, it offered convenience, and timely delivery.
Convenience, and timely service, are marks of quality in a delivery restaurant. There are differences between delivery apps, and delivery restaurants. Some of these differences go unnoticed by the delivery customer. Mainly because the app service, and the restaurant service, run in a parallel way. Each one has the goal of speedy, yet accurate, service. Furthermore, each one represents a brand. For example, Domino’s pizza. However, there are still differences that impact the courier, as well as the delivery customer.
One of the obvious differences is the status of the courier. The employment status. A courier working for a delivery merchant is often an employee. This is a different setup than a delivery app where the courier is self-employed. Additionally, one of the differences is the dispatch board. The delivery app is also a dedicated service. However, it doesn’t have the inside info like a crew courier does. Yet the delivery app offers something a delivery restaurant cannot. A variety of selection. When combined with the convenience of its service, it compares with a delivery restaurant. Additionally, the courier has greater flexibility in scheduling with a delivery app. Also there are no penalties for missing a day. And no boss barking orders.
The mark of a good delivery service is how many completions a courier can achieve in one shift. While the delivery customer is an important part of the delivery, so is the courier. They need one another. With this in mind, the crew courier will usually have more delivery completions per shift. And this doesn’t have much to do with the volume of business. It is directly related to the size of the delivery zone.
A delivery restaurant has a dedicated delivery zone. The standard is five miles from the restaurant. This means a quicker turnaround for the courier. Particularly in a delivery rush. Furthermore, over time, a crew courier memorizes a zone. Therefore it is possible to consistently improve delivery times. In other words, to get faster on each run. With a fixed limit on the miles traveled for a delivery, it becomes possible to complete more.
The Best of Both Worlds
Between delivery apps and delivery restaurants there are many choices for a delivery. A hot fresh food delivery. Or a grocery delivery. The dedicated service of the delivery restaurant has a slight advantage over the delivery app. Or once upon a time, it was that way. Over the last few years, delivery apps have integrated better with retail businesses and restaurants. Therefore, arrival times are closer to the mark.
In fact, the delivery app made some improvements over the last few years. The timing of a hot fresh food delivery coordinates closer with the merchant’s systems. This means even the timing of the queue factors into the delivery offer. As it relates to proximity, this has always been in play. However, it is able to combine proximity with timing. And the timing is very accurate. This is a result of better integration between a delivery app, and the merchant. A much closer model to the dedicated service of the delivery restaurant.
