Delivery expenses and how to trim them down

Delivery expenses and how to trim them down

Delivery expenses are real. Some fluctuate daily. For example, gas prices. Others are a recurring cost such as tire replacement. Or lunch. If the courier, is the courier’s maintenance plan, there will be expenses there also.

Furthermore there are additional expenses associated with transportation. These are expenses that deal with licensing and registration fees, as well as the proper insurance. While it is true that many of these expenses are from daily life, there are additional fees for doing it while completing deliveries.

With this in mind, insurance is a good place to start. Going through and checking a policy is never a bad idea. Looking for adjustments and unnecessary expenses there, is a good place to start the trim down.

Delivery mileage. This is an important area and very easy to overlook. Not only can mileage add up quick, but also it can send the budget for expenses through the roof! There are several ways to track the mileage. However, good old fashioned math works as well.

Additionally, the easiest thing to overlook is the total mileage for an offer. Even though it’s right there, it still has a way of slipping past the economy meter. Although there is a lot of info in that thirty to forty five second perusal time.

Total mileage is how the offer is made. Furthermore it’s true. It is the total mileage to the drop-off location. If the courier has a preferred zone, the mileage back to the zone must be considered. For example, a delivery offer totaling 16 miles into another zone. The mileage will be fairly accurate.

If the courier accepts the offer, then makes the completion, the distance back to the original zone is out of pocket. So to speak. This is important because the cost of time spent traveling is an expense. If it isn’t on the way to a pick-up or drop-off, it becomes an expense that isn’t being mitigated.

This isn’t to say that long or far away deliveries are not worth the effort. Many times these offers become very decent completions. Meaning the drop-off location is generous in their appreciation of the delivery. Not always. But more than a few.

These are just a few of the expenses that are possible when completing deliveries. There are many more. Keeping a close eye on expenses is one good way to maximize earnings. More on this in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
