Delivery driver by the numbers for a better drop-off
In every delivery there is the possibility of a delay. It might happen when picking up the cargo. It might happen after picking up the cargo. Or it might be the moment after accepting an offer from the queue. The sense of delay is something every courier avoids. A successful delivery flows from one step to the next. A stall or slow down can put the brakes on everything.
With this in mind, experienced couriers have a sharp eye for the numbers. In fact, it isn’t uncommon for the courier to be tracking different sets of numbers. Simultaneously. However, the main numbers of the delivery, are still a main concern. For example, the pick-up arrival time. This one is easy to overlook. Furthermore, it’s the assumption of a number that can create a late arrival.
It’s a delivery driver blind spot. And sometimes unchecked timing. The courier assumes the arrival time is within the limit, only to discover the opposite is true. There are several reasons why this can happen. However, they are not as important as the delivery driver marking the time upon arrival. It is especially important for the courier’s ratings.
Delivery Driver By the Numbers
The ratings are just some of the numbers a courier needs to track. The timing of the pickup and the drop-off are primary concerns. Those numbers set the pace of the delivery. And in the same way, the delivery flow. Furthermore, this carries into the GPS navigation. It is possible to travel more than one route, to the same destination.
Most navigation systems suggest more than one possible route. It’s up to the courier which route saves the most time. There are personal circumstances that have influence over some decisions. For instance, the type of vehicle the courier is using. This can mean one route is better than another, because it’s longer, but has less red lights. It’s a numbers game unique to the delivery driver’s circumstances.

Similarly this works with the home field advantage. In other words, familiarity with an area is valuable inside information. Particularly with detours and the ever present road construction. Saving five minutes here and three minutes over there adds up quick. Additionally it keeps a comfortable cushion around the courier’s timing.
A Better Drop-off
This is where all the moving parts come to the final act. That one pivotal moment when every effort that was made to save time, culminates into the wait at the front door. This is a normal part of the delivery drop-off. It is also a chance for increased earnings. The meet at the door delivery is gaining traction. The number of ‘hand it to me‘ delivery instructions have nearly doubled in recent months. I know this courier sees many more customer encounters. And that is definitely a bonus.
Customers appreciate timely service. Furthermore, meeting the delivery driver is an old tradition. Once upon a time it was the only way of doing a delivery. This meant the courier had to make contact with the customer. Cue the delivery notes with the special numbers. Every delivery driver knows how important those numbers are when standing on a front porch. Waiting. All alone. At midnight. In a thunderstorm.
Sometimes the number is a special contact number that is not on the dispatch screen. However it is in the special delivery notes. Furthermore, it’s the only way to reach the drop-off customer. This might be because there is a, do not ring the doorbell or knock, request. However, there is a contact number listed, for alerting the customer about the drop-off. These are some of the ways numbers influence just about every part of a delivery. And numbers couriers can count on are the way to a better drop-off every time. Stay safe out there.
