Deliveries, the rush and better pay bonus talk
Couriers are a highly social community. Often inseparable and very outspoken and flashy. And this courier is not telling the complete truth. Most of the time couriers are on the road. While on the road there are few chances for conversation.
Furthermore, the courier is often in a hurry. It’s the nature of the job. When couriers have a chance to compare notes, the encounter is usually brief. Additionally, they are focused on the details of the current delivery.
With this in mind, it is not uncommon for couriers to skip small talk. Indeed, the courier is usually under some form of time limit. It is easy to be in the always on mindset, after the courier learns it. It’s as simple as the never ending hustle.

However, this isn’t a mindset that couriers set out to learn. Nor is it a teachable course. For example a crew courier is set in a fixed zone. A zone that has boundaries. The crew courier doesn’t start out knowing the area. Additionally, in the start of the job, the crew courier has none of the area memorized. Yet after being on the job six months the courier has memorized the area.
When the courier doesn’t need directions or insight into delivery locations, the process is much smoother. It flows. With an area memorized the courier would then have a few extra minutes to talk about how deliveries have slimmed out over the summer.
The courier might also have a little time to discuss the dinner rush. And how it’s already shifting itself to an earlier time frame. Also, there might be some intel on why the deliveries have fallen off. It will likely lead back to inflation.
There is a lot of intel couriers are able to exchange in a short amount of time. Many times this additional info can be in the form of helpful leads to hopping locations. Definitely bonus talk that pays. This is when it’s a good idea to say howdy to that surly courier. Who knows how much valuable intel that courier might have. It could be the best delivery of the day. Stay safe out there.
