Day delivery and the night rush, which pays better?
Most jobs have a selection of shifts to work. Perhaps there are openings on the day shift. Or, maybe the only available positions, are in the evening hours. There is a day shift, and a night shift, that are possible at most merchants with in-house delivery crews. Depending on the merchant, the differences in the delivery shifts could be as pronounced as, well, night and day.
With this in mind, it is easy to arrive at many questions concerning both. The most common question being, “Which pays better, day delivery or the night rush?”
This is a multi-faceted question, that needs a straightforward answer. And the answer is…it depends. Yes, that is not straightforward. Mainly because neither shift, day or night, is predictable. There are some clues that will help prepare for business. But a prediction of earnings, just isn’t in the cards. It is why they are considered earnings. They must be earned, to determine if they are above average.
Day Delivery
This means many things, but providing hustle is top among them. This is for the solo courier. The crew courier must hustle or the other couriers will take all the runs. It happens. Every day. Furthermore, it is the hustle or diligence of the courier, that creates better than average pay. This is especially true with day delivery, and arriving on time.
One of the challenges for a day delivery driver, is timely completions. In fact, during day deliveries, the drop-off location, has a time limit as well. Talk about burning a candle at both ends. This extra time constraint is what makes a day delivery ultra challenging to complete. On time. Additionally there is an intensity to traffic conditions that is not present in the evening hours. This does impact delivery arrival times.
Furthermore, the general mood of an evening customer, is more relaxed, compared to that of the at work delivery customer. The stress and pressure, from a hurried lunch delivery, is absent. Consequently this creates an atmosphere of anticipation for the delivery. The relaxed nature of the delivery, combined with courier accuracy and being on time, sets up a professional delivery experience.
The night rush
Furthermore the night of the week, plays a role in the volume of deliveries available. For example, a Friday night will be busier than a Tuesday night. In most cases, this is true. Therefore, a courier can plan on the opportunity for more chances, to improve earnings. Similarly, there are day deliveries that are catering deliveries. These deliveries also offer the opportunity for improved earnings. They do require hustle, and catering bags, where applicable.
With the various differences out of the way, it isn’t easy to say which pays better. If it is between the day delivery and the night rush, there will be pros and cons either way. Therefore, it depends. Stay safe out there.
