Courier services, the best delivery apps for improved offers
The first thing a courier notices about a delivery offer is where. The second thing, is how much. The crew courier, driving for a merchant, has interest in the where. The courier using a delivery app, has an eye for both. The crew courier may not always know how much a tip will be, ahead of time. Tips may happen after services rendered. Additionally, they may not. Tips are optional.
The courier using a delivery app has a different scenario. Offers present themselves in a dispatch screen. Or queue. The offer will have important, basic details. For example, where the offer is going. Which merchant has the offer, and how much the expected payout will be. The experienced courier will be able to gauge this information at a glance. New couriers will pick this up with consistent effort.
With this in mind, it doesn’t take long for the courier to develop ratings. Delivery apps use ratings to track courier performance and also offer incentives. For example, the acceptance rating. This rating measures how many deliveries the courier accepts from the queue. Likewise, the rating tracks how many offers the courier declines. While it is important, many experienced couriers, find this particular rating a pain in the rump.
Courier Services
Couriers must be selective when considering offers from the queue. Delivery requests can be from anywhere, to anywhere. This applies to the delivery app. Crew couriers, driving for a merchant, have a set zone, or delivery area. It is based on the parameters the merchant sets. For example, a five mile radius from the merchant location, in any direction.
Furthermore, the crew courier is in a courier queue. In other words, crew couriers must take the next available delivery. If the crew courier is the next in line, the next delivery in line, is assigned. The crew courier cannot decline the delivery. Even a delivery known for not tipping. The delivery assignment must be fulfilled. In this way, the merchant knows every delivery request, will be fulfilled.
In comparison, the courier using a delivery app, doesn’t have the same restrictions. The solo courier, or courier using a delivery app, can decline any, or all, offers from the queue. In fact, it is possible to only accept the best delivery offers. However, this would leave other couriers, and customers, in a bind. Without some incentive to accept the not so great delivery offers, there wouldn’t be very many delivery app customers.
The Best Delivery Apps
The experienced courier understands the process. However, at times it is difficult to carry out. Especially when several low paying offers appear in the queue, back to back. And then back to back again. Declining too many offers, has a negative impact on the acceptance rating. This, in turn, can impact any incentives the courier has built up in the app.
In fact, many couriers see these back to back, low pay offers, as an incentive deal breaker. The belief is that the app is trying to compel the acceptance of bad deliveries. It is thought of as a queue bluff. Or the hard earned, high acceptance rating, leveraged. Throw in a hyper algorithm, and the acceptance rating can plummet, within minutes. This topic ranks high among solo couriers.
However, there is hope on the horizon. The best delivery apps, are addressing this concern, in creative ways. The top two delivery apps, DoorDash and Uber Eats, have improved offers over the course of time. Couriers must still be selective in accepting offers. However, it is for offers that are achievable for their circumstances. Courier services are still a priority. For the courier, and the delivery customer. More on this in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
