Chasing hotspots, is there a better way?
Well, that’s a wrap! Time to pack away the 2022 summer season, and fall into fall! With the official start of fall, comes the unofficial start, of the season of holiday deliveries!
This season is sure to be intense! Furthermore, the new holiday season, has ample chances, for spectacular delivery experiences.
Deliveries will become more abundant, as the new season unfolds. However, there will still be those times when things are slow. These are good times to think about chasing hotspots, and, is there a better way?
In order to determine if chasing a hotspot is a good idea, we must first define the hotspot.
Hotspots
Taking a closer look at this screenshot of Doordash delivery zones, shows a color coded quick view of the possible delivery zones. Not only are they color coded, but they are also marked with labels. Furthermore, the labels are the keys, to chasing hotspots.
However, the labels and the color codes, will change as time plays out. An area that is hot at the current time, will not remain so. This is when the selection of a starting point is important.
When the courier has chosen the starting zone, there will be hotspots inside that particular zone. Hotspots are areas that are experiencing high demand at the current time.
On a Doordash hotspot map the hotspot zones will be marked. The closer the courier is to the exact location of the hotspot, the better. Activity in a hotspot location is extreme.
The concept of chasing hotspots is simple. When one cools, go to the next. However it is not always a sound idea. It is possible to set out chasing a hotspot, only to have it cool, while the courier is en route.
Better Way?
So, is there a better way? The short answer is yes, and it’s simple as well, don’t chase hotspots. The courier will go further working a hotspot, rather than chasing a hotspot.
Occasionally, offers do not immediately present, this does not mean the hotspot is no good. Leaving the area, to seek another hotspot, could lead to fewer offers overall.
The Doordash app also works to provide the courier with continued offers from one hotspot location to the next. This means the app is leading the courier to hotspots, rather than the courier guessing where the next hotspot will be.
With time and experience the courier will become adept at selecting the zones, and hotspot locations, that work best for the setup being used. So, chasing hotspots, is there a better way? Comment below if you’ve found one! Stay safe out there.
