Can traffic delays lead to better arrival times?
Couriers deal with ratings on a regular basis. There is a rating for almost every move a courier makes. Particularly the solo courier, using an app, to complete deliveries. From the start of the delivery, to the moment after the drop-off, the courier deals with delivery ratings. Therefore, a courier has more than one reason to hustle. In fact, the hustle is bread and butter for the courier.
With this in mind, speedy delivery is usually the preferred delivery style. In fact, an on time delivery adds to the convenience of a delivery. A courier with consistent on-time delivery ratings, gets a rating for this metric. Furthermore, it reflects in the app. And every delivery app, has some form of rating system.
There are different schools of thought on some of these metrics. Or ratings. Couriers using a delivery app as a minor sidehustle, are less worried about some ratings. Likewise, they are more concerned about other ratings. For example, a part time sidehustle courier isn’t stressing a cancellation rating. However, the on time rating, might be a different story. Similarly, one rating stresses every courier. And it is the arrival time rating.
Can Traffic Delays Lead to Better Arrival Times?
The arrival time is an important matter for the courier. The experienced courier takes this into account almost immediately after accepting the offer. Then a traffic jam screws everything up. Not only is it a jam, but it also has parking lot potential. The traffic situation is now going to jam the delivery. However, it doesn’t have to.
These are the moments when communication is effective. If the courier has encountered an unexpected delay, contact with the delivery customer is a best practice. The communication goes toward a better customer experience for the drop-off. Furthermore, it now makes sense why the courier dot on the delivery map, is sitting still. (Not every map shows real time traffic)
Occasionally the courier can pull a last second save. That is, catch the shortcut. Or avoid the jam. However, traffic is a big consideration, in many delivery zones. More than a few highway systems are undergoing improvements. Or more accurately, a shit ton of road construction. All of which can put a dent in arrival times. Or on-time arrival times. The preferred delivery type.
Better Arrival Times
The best arrival times are the ones that create a positive customer experience. The on-time delivery drop-off, is the most common delivery rating. Yet, there are times a late delivery, can become a positive customer experience. However, that relies on the courier, and the amount of hustle involved. Real time updates and speedy service count. Add in some courteous communication, and the traffic delay can lead to a better arrival time, almost every time. Stay safe out there.
