Basic safety tips for a better Halloween delivery
Finally it’s only one week away from the spookiest holiday of the year. Trick or treat enthusiasts everywhere are getting ready for the big day. Likewise couriers are gearing up for the increase in delivery activity. And what an increase it will be. Particularly this year. Not only is the holiday on a Friday, but also the next day is Saturday! That means the trick or treat scene could be extra busy. And for an extended time.
Experienced couriers know the challenges with Halloween delivery. Firstly, the clock is still ticking. Therefore, the courier is still hustling. However, the streets are full, and bustling. The little ones and their friends and parents alike are all on the move on Halloween night. Furthermore, some groups of people use the mini van for a shuttle bus. Which is really helpful for the very small trick or treat champions. This creates a lot of road traffic in neighborhoods. Especially smaller neighborhoods.

Combine the road traffic, with all the pedestrians, and few safety tips might seem redundant. Yet the pressure of the ticking clock, has a potent influence. Similarly it is far too easy to assume a road is clear. Particularly when in a rush. Even if the courier is at half speed, Halloween night changes all the rules. In fact, in some neighborhoods, it is more effective to park at the entrance of the neighborhood. Then take the cardio. When it’s faster to walk to the drop off, might as well get comfortable, it’s going to be a long night.
Basic Safety Tips
Slowing down is the first safety tip of the bunch. It’s so important it’s at the top of the list. Not just slowing down, but really slowing down. Especially at the beginning of a neighborhood. On Halloween night some of the little ones are too small to make the walk, so they ride. Baby strollers, and parents pushing baby strollers, are a common sight on Halloween night. Not all neighborhoods have sidewalks. This can mean lots of activity on the side of the road.
Additionally, this activity begins early in the evening. In some places the doorbells are ringing as the sun goes down. To put this in courier terms, if a neighborhood usually takes three to four minutes to loop, it will be five times longer on Halloween night. So, no need to get in a hurry. Which is another of the safety tips. It’s a tough one too. However, that is the challenge of Halloween night delivery. It’s almost a conundrum of its own.
It’s almost a conundrum of its own because it is a delivery night with a high volume of delivery requests. In fact, delivery demand will be up and above a typical Friday night. Yet the neighborhoods will be jam packed. This is why getting in a hurry doesn’t add up on Halloween night. Things level off as the night wears on. Although keeping the flashlight or spotlight handy is a good idea.
A Better Halloween Delivery
Keep that flashlight ready. Another important safety tip is the flashlight, or spotlight. An independent light source is a courier best practice. A phone is nice, but it doesn’t have the concentrated shine that a flashlight has. Similarly a flashlight has a beam of light. This means it is helpful in seeing faraway building numbers in the dark.

And while on the topic of lights, the vehicle lights are just as important. A quick check of all the vehicle lights is one of the most important safety tips. From the blinker lights, to the parking lights, a quick check of all lights is a courier best practice. Double checking the hazard lights, is also recommended. These are just a few of the top safety tips for a safer Halloween night, delivery experience.
Experienced couriers, and new couriers alike, will have more than a few challenges that night. A deliberate pace that is in tune with the surrounding environment will go a long way toward a better Halloween delivery. As the night wears on, the delivery pace returns to normal. In the meantime, slow and steady definitely wins this race. And as always, stay safe out there.
