AI spin and robot deliveries, couriers at heart

Robot deliveries are the next best thing. Once the robots start rolling off the assembly line it’s going to be bad news for the courier. With the increased presence of AI and a few robots, it seems the courier’s days are numbered!

Not only is this disturbing news for the courier but also the robots are a little intimidated too. Apartment complexes require extra time and effort. Furthermore, courier pay isn’t always as good as robot pay. Consequently, the machines will be taking a pay cut.

However, there is much that a machine can do better than a human. For example, replacing a human, in a task the robot can do better. That’s vague, however not deliberately so. It’s a given that machines, or machine learning, can out perform humans in some categories.

Also in some categories, it’s speculation, if a machine can out perform a human. Not every task is done better by a machine. This article has elements of speculation and opinion. However, it is written by a human. This isn’t to say the article is written better than an AI could write it. Only that it isn’t written by AI.

With this in mind, it’s possible to speculate if a machine can replace the courier. It is unlikely. The playing field needs to be leveled out, so the machines have a chance. Otherwise the courier will have job security. Indefinitely.

Furthermore, little has changed since the humble beginnings of the pony express. The courier still makes the trip from point A to point B each time. The steed may have changed throughout the years but not the job description.

To date, there have been very interesting attempts to replace the courier. The robot that is able to find drop-off locations is cool. It sits curbside and waits while its cargo cools. If only it could navigate an apartment complex and knock on the door!

However, it did find the general location. Also it did so safely. Moreover, it did not need human help. Furthermore, it is waiting at the curb. Down the street. In the cold. At night.

Meanwhile the old fashioned human courier, is at the top floor. Within ten steps of the door! There is a plume of steam coming from the hot fresh cargo the courier is carrying. Nice! Looks like dinner is about to be served. Stay safe out there.
