A courier safety checkup for better returns
A close call on a delivery can be unsettling. In fact, there are many things that can be unsettling on any given delivery. It could be the driveway at the drop-off location. It could be the route that must be traveled to the pickup. Or perhaps it is late at night, and the drop-off location is in the outer boondocks. All of these scenarios are possible safety concerns. However, they are not the only ones. Nor are they the worst.
With this in mind, a courier safety checkup is important. After all, safety should be one of the primary focus points, for the courier. Not only focusing on safety, but also putting real effort into the practice of the same. Furthermore, safety is more than some numbers to call on the phone in case something goes sideways. Courier safety is as much about preparation, as it is about a recourse of action. Just in case something happens.
This is about proactive versus reactive. The best safety approach usually is. For example, two spare tires instead of just one. Similarly, preparing for any type of situation is a worthwhile goal. Like taking steps to prepare for the unexpected. This ideal really goes well with a planned vehicle maintenance routine. Consistent vehicle maintenance, and upkeep, are proactive ways to address courier safety. The ride matters.
A Courier Safety Checkup
A well maintained vehicle is important. It is directly involved with courier safety. Furthermore, accessories are also important safety features. Charging cables for the phone and any GPS equipment are must-haves. As well as the adapter to make charging possible. Additionally, a road safety kit for the trunk is a best practice.
That spare tire is also a must have. Other tire repair items, such as cans of fix a-flat, tire plug kits, and others, are also must haves. If it makes for a good backup plan on the road it is a benefit for the courier. Likewise it can be as simple as some road flares, or as complex as hydraulic jacks for lifting the vehicle. These are some of the components of a viable safety plan. A box of mechanic tools are also a benefit.
Knowing the area of the drop-off is another safety best practice. However, it isn’t always possible. Many delivery offers, cross into adjoining zones. They merge. Therefore, it is likely the courier will be in unknown areas. A common sense approach to this is using the vehicle as the safe zone until the courier can confirm the safety of the drop-off location.
Better Returns
Courier safety should be a top priority for every courier. Managing the drop-off location is one way to increase courier safety. Calling, or messaging, the delivery customer to confirm the address is a best practice. Or perhaps the courier is in the dark. And stuck deciding between two side by side drop-offs. Contacting the customer is golden. Particularly if the two addresses are beside each other. More on this topic in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
