A better driving experience with practical effort
Delivery driving is as much about strategy as it is speed. In fact, the best delivery times happen because of skill and timing, rather than sheer speed. Furthermore, this may sound far fetched. The natural feel of a delivery is to hustle. The faster the better.
Of course high speed, is faster. Not only faster, but also ten times more safe. Just in case the writing doesn’t express it well enough, the preceding words are sarcasm. Faster rates of speed, are not directly related to improved delivery times. If it still seems counter intuitive, think back to the old story about the tortoise and the hare.
A better driving experience
In that story the fast runner was flashy and over confident. Meanwhile, the slow and steady runner, won the race. This article isn’t to encourage the slow down of hustle. Indeed, there is always every reason for the courier to be moving with hustle. However, directing the hustle, can be a benefit to the courier.
With this in mind, there are advantages to knowing a route so well every nuance is memorized. It’s the concept of not losing a single moment to distraction. Nowhere is this more evident than the daily traveled route.
Even a fifteen mile stretch of one lane dirt road can be navigated exceptionally fast. Furthermore, it can be done without ever pushing extreme speed. This is possible because of the concept of practice. The more times a courier runs down a road, the better the courier knows the road.
Even hidden nuances, such as dips and low shoulders, become a part of the feel for that stretch of road. Things like knowing which side to angle toward, as the hella pothole creeps up. Additionally, other characteristics come into play. Such as the time of day. A well practiced route, will be traffic predictable, at almost any time of the day.
Practical Effort
Using a route that requires little planning, is a benefit for the courier. However, not every road will be like the practice dirt road. In short, not every road will be familiar. Yet the principle remains the same. It is possible to have a better driving experience with practical effort. Stay safe out there.
