3 Reasons Why Meet at the Door is the Better Way

Once upon a time, being a delivery driver of hot fresh food was largely about customer contact. The idea of leaving hot fresh food, unattended and waiting to be discovered, was thought of as unprofessional.

It is true that in the days, prepandemic, many of the systems that are in place now, didn’t exist. A courier had to be persistent and patient until the door was answered. Sometimes phonecalls and texts were necessary as well.

Getting the customer to the door was paramount. It was still an open delivery until the customer took possession of the cargo. Therefore, ringing doorbells and knocking and then waiting, were part of completing the delivery.

No contact deliveries are the result of precautions put in place, during the pandemic. The process is the opposite of the good old days of deliveries. In fact, the no-contact model is so good at no contact, that many times the customer has no idea the food is waiting.

3 Reasons Why Meet at the Door is the Better Way

I have received this feedback from customers, when I meet them at the door. So, there are several good reasons to ignore the leave at the door directive, when encountered in-app.

    Contact is friendly

Making contact with customers is the friendly way to complete a delivery. It adds a professional touch to the delivery experience. In fact, it connects the courier to the stats that are visible in the app. In short, it’s a chance to represent.

Meet at the Door is Better

Meeting the customer at the door allows the courier to transfer the cargo directly to the customer. There is no chance that the hot fresh food will sit and cool. Even with a picture and the app reminders, not all networks are equally fast.

Similarly, pressing the doorbell and then leaving the hot fresh food on the ground, without confirming the customer knows it’s there, is unprofessional.

Couriers do have to hunt down the customer at times. It’s what a courier does. Making certain of contact, when meeting at the door, is key.

    A Better Way

Meeting at the door is the old way, and it’s an old way that is fast becoming the normal way again. Handing cargo directly to the customer is an excellent way for the courier to guarantee that the delivery is complete.

It is also an excellent way to develop customer friendly relationships. It is common to deliver to the same customer regularly, no matter the size of the city.

Happy customers are bread and butter to the courier. Developing a good customer relationship, is key to prosperous deliveries, for the courier.
